Because love and sex are universal- everyone understands love and everyone understands sex.
I think you listen to the wrong sort of music- the seems to be limited to pop music only. I could quote an infinate number of songs and groups who sing about other things, such as Joy Division, Kraftwerk, Einsturzende Neubauten, Depeche Mode (for the majority of songs), Joy Electric, Freezepop...I could keep going!
The simple fact is that songwriters aren't brave enough to try anything new. The music industry is money-orientated, and so the writers write what suits the companies, not the bands.
I would say however that the situation is changing due to the influx of 'real' music- bands who write their own songs and play their own instruments. The fact they are daring is probably part of their popularity.
Abandon pop music if you are sick of it being over-sexed. Sooner or later the industry will wake up.

Because that's what's on most people's minds. Any artist out there who wants to succeed knows that you have to give the people what they want. And the majority of the people want to hear love songs.
All technicalities aside, people write and sing about what moves them. There is no bigger high than being in love. Everyone's felt it at least once in their lives. Since it's such a wonderful feeling, no wonder people write about it!
There are lots of songs out there that don't have to do with love or relationships, since none of them appeal to you. (And, by the way, that's perfectly okay. You don't have to like something just because it's what's "in.") You have to look for non-romance songs a little more, but they are out there. Happy hunting!

I suspect it's due to the fact that love (and the things associated with it like sex, heartache, etc.) are universal in theme. Yes, I agree that it can be rather tiresome but a great song that speaks honestly about love can be really quite profound.
At the same time, there are so many fantastic artists out there with awesome messages about politics, social change, etc., like U2, Rage against the Machine, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Bruce Springsteen, Peter Gabriel, Joni Mitchell, Tracy Chapman, Pink Floyd. Seek and ye shall find.

You must listen to pop music. Besides, if you have a problem with it, write your own music.
