Yikes! I do not know---i know some people who have gotten married at 18, which is legal in my state (Ohio), but i think that the average age around here is 20-25 or 26---also i know a lot of people waiting till they are 27, 28, 29 or even mid-30's---personally, i am 22 and i could get married right now, but my fiance does not want do---i don't think that he is mature enough to get married anyway, and he is a sheltered only child and i think that it will be a while yet, so i am not putting my life on hold just to wait for him to even decide to get our own place---he didn't get out much before he met me, well he did, but not doing normal stuff that people our age do-he tagged and still tags around with his parents a lot, and i feel like we should do stuff our own age, but he is still selfish and wants to do what he wants to do, and is not used to being told no, so i give up.....ok im shutting up now.....i tend to get a little carried away!

I think the average age is 27. Most people i know feel the need to live a little before settling down. If men did the right thing when they get a girl pregnant though i think there would be a younger average. Then again sometimes the woman doesnt want the sperm donor anyway.

I think it's about 25-28. I got married (fast!) at 18 and wouldn't recommend it to anyone at this point, even though it felt completely right at the time and he turned out to be a decent enough guy. Statistics, personal experience, and lots of heart-to-heart discussions with my older (40-50 yr/old) girlfriends have left me with the opinion that marriage basically ruins relationships, for most people. All I have to do is look around, the happiest people I know are not married. If you love each other, you'll stay together, no contract needed. Plus, having that possibility that they could leave if they wanted gives you natural motivation to continue treating that person the way they need to be treated: after marriage, everyone I know turns demanding - the natural inclination to please each other disappears and is replaced with a natural inclination to demand that they please you. Even if you try to fight that mindset, it will probably win.

Of course there are some people who seem to be happy as a married couple, and more power to them. I just don't really believe it works for most, no matter how much you want it to. I have certainly seemed - to everyone who knows me and my husband - to be extremely happy to be married, even though it's been far from the case.

Sorry for over-answering your question, I guess I needed to vent :-)

After doing some research it seems like there are varying answers. It looks like a study done in 2005 said that the average age is btwn. 26 and 27. However, they say couples are happier when they get married younger.
