Get some professional help. That is way too long to try without success. I would start with your OBGYN. Inform him/her that you are ttc. He/she should look at your medical history, do some routine blood work and give you an exam. If all this has been done, then seek the help of a fertility specialist.
Just because your cycles aren't regular doesn't necessarily mean that you are not ovulating. You need to know if and when you are ovulating in order to help you conceive. You can use ovulation kits, or you can chart your basal body temperature. You can learn how to chart your bbt and chart it for free at fertilityfriend.com. This sight also has valuable information about ovulation and conception.
It took me 13 months to conceive my daughter. During that time I tried to educate myself as much as possible to understand all the terminology and discuss all my options with my OBGYN. It also helped me from giving up because understanding that with all that has to be just right to conceive, it's a wonder it happens at all. I learned there is a big difference between ttc and just not preventing it.
Best of luck to you!

Your ovulation cycle is very unique. Every woman is different. But the best way to get pregnant...(I've been pregnant 4 times) Next time you have your period, mark it down on a calander, count that as day #1 then count out 14 days, no more, no less, the 14th day is the only day that you can get pregnant out of the month. After that, all there is left to do is well...the deed. And it may sound disgusting, but after ejaculation, dont get right up and clean up. Spend about 10 mins lying down so as the sperm have time to swim up to the egg. And Relax, all in good time. ;-)

To get pregnant you must have sex on a day that your eggs are being released.
After the 3rd day from the day that menses started put a thermometer into your mouth and check your body temperature every morning before you start turning in bed. The best time is at about 4 a.m. Maintain a chart. You will find that on one day the body temperature drops from 1/2 degree to one degree. This is the day that your eggs are being released. If you want to get pregnant this is the day that you must have sex. Tell your husband to ejaculate on his inward thrust so that the sperms will shoot deep inside.
After having sex you must stay in bed for about 30 mins with your knees bent up with a pillow under your buttocks so that the sperms will not pour out - to enable them to travel up.
Get your husband to save his sperms in the testacles for at least 3 days before sex to enable them to mature well to do their job.

Buy an ovulation test kit. That will tell you what day you ovulate and this having a better chance. Also try not to have sex every day...it lowers the sperm count. Most doctors recommend every other day.
If you continue to have fertility issues make an appt with a doctor.
Have you tried basal temping?

Make an appt with your GP and talk it over with him/her, they may set up a few blood tests for you to check your hormone level. If need be they will refer you to your local Fertility Clinic and they will do some more "invasive" tests eg. internal scans. They will also want to test your husand/partner.
Once you have talked things over and done whatever tests required by your Fertility Clinic they may decide to start you on some hormone stimulating meds which will help you produce more eggs so that you can continue trying naturally for a baby and if that doesn't work they will decide whether IUI, IVF or ICSI treatment is for you.

Find a good fertility clinic in your area. They say to seek out help with fertility if you have been trying for a year or more with no success. Good luck to you!
