I'm 26, never been pregnant, and I have really heavy, long menstural periods. I finally got health insurance a month ago and I happened to be on my period at the time. I went to the gyno and she put me on these hormone pills which slowed down the bleeding. Before I went to her I had to call off work for 2 weeks because I was constantly on my period and I would start gushing blood out of nowehere. I have already been to the hospital for it and can not go back because I owe thousands of dollars in hospital bills. They took all kinds of blood tests, X rays and even a sonogram and told me everything looked fine. When I went to the gyno she told me that I had cysts which may the problem. Seem like I dont get a clear answer from anyone and saturday I was suppoesed to get off the hormone pills and have a 'normal' period but it's not. It was so heavy yesturday that I had to go to the Dr's and she put me on the Nuva ring and gave me a work excuse. I asked her if I was

Adenomyosis, fibroids and Von Willebrands immediately come to mind. Adeno cannot be diagnosed via U/S or other diagnostic test, and there is no cure other than a hysterectomy for it, but there are things you can do to treat the symptoms. Check out http://www.centerforendo.com/articles/adenomyosis.htm, http://www.merck.com/mmhe/sec14/ch173/ch173e.html and http://www.nuff.org for more info on the above. Good luck and feel better.

As fas as work, talk to your supervisor, even if it is a man. Explain that you are having problems and are in the prcoess of getting it taken care of. A lot of the time when an employer knows the problem and knows you are trying to get it resolved, he or she will work with you.

Give this doctor a chance. She had to start somewhere. The first thing she tried, did not seem to work well, but continue to see her. I am not saying she is perfect and you may have to eventually change doctors if she is not competent, but give her a chance first.

I worked in a doctor's office and did not have any trouble signing work excuses. When I signed one as Office Manager, I always wrote on it to call if there were any questions. I did this in case the employer had a problem with there not being the docs signature. I never received a call from anyone and these work excuses always worked out OK for the patients. Your doctors office should be able to do this for you.

Has your doctor suggested surgery for these cysts? Ask her what your options are.

I had the same trouble when I was 26. I had to end up getting a hysterectomy. There were other options but I was so weak and sick of it, that I opted for surgery. It turned out that I probably would not have been able to have children anyway. I am 50 so there are may more options available now. Hopefully your doctor will come up with some suggestions.

My best friends sister had this problem. She has a thyroid problem, and they think that could be some of it. A way to get it to stop would be another medical procedure that would probably cost a good amount of money. A lot of times they will do DNC's on women, what that is is they go in a clean out the uterus, which will sometimes stop the bleeding. I know you have lots of medical bills but you need to see your Gyno and have her put you on a pill. I know sometimes after women have babies they put them on a progesterone based pill that helps stop the bleeding, and it's safe enough for them to use while breastfeeding. If anything try to go to a health clinic and get some free information. I'm definitely not one to talk on this, but I know excercise is supposed to help stop or ease blood flow.

did she talk to you about using birth control pills to stop this current bleeding episode? the nuva ring may help but it might take some time. often times these episodes can be stopped with higher dose bc pills - like 3 a day for 7 days- there are other regimens also. this is known as medical curettage. following the week of high dose pills you would go on regular bc pill dosing - 1 daily. more often than not, the bleeding will slow considerably the first or second day on the high dose birth control pills. another option is a surgical curettage - d&c. you should probably be on either the pill, ring or patch to control your cycles once you get this episode under control

I had somewhat of the same problem back in July. I did have a cyst and it finally went away when I switched birth control pills. You may want to try going on birth control I even had to go on Provera for 10 days to get the bleeding to stop which made me even more sick. good Luck see your doctor again have test ran again and get std's done too just to make sure.

What's your question specifically?

Go to another hospital. You can't be denied medical care because of a lack of money.

You said one doctor said you have cysts. What treatment did she recommend? Can you have them removed?

Find another doctor if the one you have isn't giving you adequate answers.
