I helped my step daughter with homework in high school, and tried to get her to go to college. When she really figured she wasn't cut out for it, I encouraged her to not go into fast food, but find a job with a career ladder. She now operates the lens grinders to make eyeglasses. (not trying to take all the credit, a lot of people worked with her) I think a total suportive atmosphere is more important.
