We appreciate artwork because of the vulnerability the artist went through to get it to it's present state. We appreciate artwork to acknowledge that we recognize the difference between a picture and art, the difference between a bowl and a sculpture.
When an artist creates, he/she puts a lot of themselves into their work. The piece evokes the emotions, deepest desires and memories of the artist. We want to show that we appreciate them sharing a part of their being with us that we would otherwise never know.
