I plan on pursuing an MBA at UC Berkeley next year and am in the middle of writing my essays. I know that the teachers are excellent and the curriculum is relevant. But that can be said for just about every other top business school out there. Any thoughts?

Actually -- it can't be said about just about any other MBA program out there. Most MBA programs (even the top ones) may offer a class or two in real estate -- but don't have an actual Real Estate department.

MIT has a Real Estate program -- but it is not part of Sloan. Wharton and a few other schools do have programs.

One of the things that is different about Haas (Berkeley) is that it takes a finance approach to real estate. Most of the faculty are also faculty in Finance -- and a couple of the Finance faculty are experts in Mortgage-Backed Securities. The PhD students in Real Estate must also be admitted to the PhD program by either the accounting or finance departments.

You are right about the faculty -- they are first rate. In addition to the classes and outstanding faculty, the school also has a research center devoted to real estate. See the link below for more information
