No. We set precident by invading a country who did nothing to us under the mask of what they might do to us. The Congress and the American people were lied to from the gitgo and still the lies come from our leaders.

Many people all over the world take a totally supportive or totally unsupportive position on this issue. I am a very liberal person politically, and I believe we need to separate two very different aspects of the Iraq war: 1) the decision to invade (putatively to depose the dictator and to destroy prohibited WMD), and 2) what to do after the invasion, when a despicable insurgency or civil war develops (as now).

We don't often discuss the matter this way (especially "liberals"), but if, as has often been alleged, Saddam Hussein killed over 200,000 Iraqis, as well as hundreds of thousands being killed in Hussein's various wars, what does this say about the value of deposing him? What if, hypothetically, the 25 year or so Saddam era yielded 400,000 dead Iraqis (from all leadership-related causes), and the Iraq war of 2003 and the ensuing 24 years yield only maybe 160,000 dead? The math (which is politically unbiassed, of course) suggests that the war in Iraq which began in March 2003 may have been not the "beginning" of a war, but the beginning of the end of a war (against the Iraqi people, by their peculiarly despotic and inept dictator).

All this being said, I believe that the insurgency will continue and that Bush sees the historical place of his presidency as hinging on the outcome in Iraq, which he believes requires "staying the course." So GW Bush will not end the war, no matter what. But the U.S. in my opinion, will see the democratic presidential candidate in '08 running on a "bring the troops home" agenda, and he or she will be elected. In '09 the troops return and the Iraqi civil war runs its course (over years??).

As far as innocent people being killed, all wars kill "innocent" people. It is best then to work against wars, rather than to second-guess the wisdom of a specific war.

Yes it is sad that people die but that is what happens in war. Yes, it was the right thing to do in the interest of peace and security for the innocent people that were being killed before we went in. War is a necessary evil to prevent evil people from taking control so that others may live in peace.

God Bless the USA and our military!!!

I don't watch the news in regards to Iraq. I learned a long time ago that what they report is no where near the real story. I just know we are doing the right thing, because I trust our Military and I trust this President. I also followed all the events since the gulf war, so I understand why we went in.

Bush has been President now for six long years without even (Promoting Diplomacy) even his Father Bush Senior had a problem with (DIPLOMACY)...I believe that we are in Iraq because Bush wants to & has been (Building) Military Bases there so that He can line -up our Military to face the Border of Iran & Neighboring Pakistan...Our President Bush favors War over Diplomacy. There have been far too many (Innoncent People) that have Died because we (Unfortunately)have a President that is soo (Soaked In Oil) that it's Clouded his (Vision) for a Safer America. The war was on the terrorists and bad guys in Iraq. The bad guys that kill women on a soccer field and rape and torture people for no reason.
Iraqi women can now vote, children are in school and democracy will work in Iraq, it just take time to root out the terrorists.
So yes, the war was necessary.

the war on Iraq was not to make the US more secure, it was not to help the Iraqi people from Saddam. It was out of greed and revenge, we went into this war believing in a bunch of lies, this war only caused death and destruction, and we are not safer now either. not only is it assumed but it is a fact that North Korea has nuclear weapons, so why aren't we going in? no oil? perhaps that is the reason. if it was fear of nuclear weapons we would not be choosing one country over the other when it comes to securing our safety.

I feel the conflict in Iraq should have never happened. I think that troops are dying for no good reason.

I think that this war in Iraq is what is holding back dealing with a country that really has a threat of Weapons of Mass Destruction... North Korea.

If the US keeps troops in Iraq until the people are ready to defend it themselves... we'll be there for a long time still.

The people will not long to preserve something that they did not initiate. They would like freedom, I'm sure, but are they ready for it? Are they ready to fight for it?

I'm not sure why the US wants to push other nations to be like them. If it's the right course, point them towards it, but let them get there... don't do it for them.

You can put a kindergartner in 5th grade by taking their tests for them, but once you stop taking their tests... they will be lost and fail. When they are ready, they will fight for their freedom just like the US did... when it was ready.

We would have been there one way or another. Do not belive all the press that comes out of Iraq ask the ones that have been there. I have and tell all say the press lies or at best only tells the bad news even FOX News.

I haven't seen anything right about the War in Iraq. We haven't found the WMDs we came there for. We haven't caught the terrorists. We caught Saddam Hussein but we really didn't have the right to and we lied to the American people to try it. There are more and more terrorists every day, our soldiers keep dying, we're still there and we don't know what we need to do to go home.

That's what the liberal media wants you to see. They wont show the happy Iraqis that are cheering for the soldiers when they drive through their city.
