In a wealthy, developed country as ours there should be no such thing as charity. Why should those less able have to rely on the kindness of a minority. Putting 1 or 2p on tax would ensure all these bodies, which include hospices for children, would no longer have to rely on the charity of individuals and could be properly funded.

Some people do more than others, and we have to get every body who can afford to give signed up to a monthly donation,or taken off peoples wage or salary like PAYE in the UK. We also need to make sure that the money is being spent wisely and going to the right places where it is needed most. So to sum up , yes we need to do and give more and the charities need to make sure that they know how and where each penny/cent is spent.
I give by direct debit each month.

There are many people here in the UK who need desperate help and this is where our charity donations should be spent.
When we send money abroad most of it goes to line the pockets of the politicians and organised crime and the people who need it most never get it except maybe a bag of flour.

There is always room for more! A lot of us DO much for charity, but we just don't shout about it. Some prefer to keep a low profile.

Try these.
Where is all the money you (we) sent to Indonesia after the Tsunami?
What happened to the Pakistani earthquake relief money?
If you want to make a difference, go there, roll your sleeves up and see the results of your charity.

I do what I can to volunteer, as the Operations Director (6 days a week) for a food pantry that helps feed hungry Americans.
Are others doing their part?

As a country we give away millions and millions- as individuals - I think we should all do some kind of volunteer work either in out own community or where it is needed- like where a calamity has taken place- it is good for them and us- D

Yes we should do more. If we ALL did enough we would not be in the situations we are in. People are self concerned and care more when tragedy hits them, it is easy to forget when things seem far from you how important they are. Still, it is shameful.
