If my team is running the stanford play & we do multiple laterals, can I toss it back behind the line of scrimmage for a foward pass during the play? Even after mutiple lateral passes?

Three conditions must be met for your scenario to even be VAGUELY legal....

1. Linemen must stay at home to block; no "screen pass" type blocking.

2. The player you intend to have throw the ball must be behind the neutral zone expanded when he receives the last backward pitch.

3. The pass must be the ONLY forward pass attempted during the play, as the double pass has been removed from the rulebook.

If the ball is thrown parallel or backwards behind the line of scrimmage then a forward pass can follow. If the ball crosses the line of scrimmage then goes back behind it then no forward pass can be thrown. "The Play" as it has been called was all backwards laterals on a kickoff return so this rule would not apply. No forward pass would be allowed at all.

No, they all have to be backward laterals.
In fact, I saw on a news story about the Stanford play that the last lateral before the TD was illegal because the player who caught the lateral on the run wasbeyond the yard line where the previous player pitched the ball over his shoulder.

you do know forward pass and lateral is an oxymoron? if you throw the ball forward its an illegal pass. i think what u meant is if you throw a pass behind the line of scrimmage is it legal? as long as the ball doesnt go forward its legal. the ball CANNOT be thrown forward at anytime after it has crossed the line of scrimmage ALL PASSES must be backwards.

if u can "toss it back behind the line of scrimmage for a foward pass" go right ahead. i would actually pay money to see that happen

You couldn't run the scenario you're describing, because you're going to end up with a ton of penalties for ineligible men downfield. Those linemen who make their way downfield during the laterals are going to be flagged.

it was a kickoff return so there was no line of scrimmage.
