Actually I thiunk it depends of the listener, for example, music of Michael Jackson have a hug fans around the world, same happen with almost all the music, the music become sectarian, when the "fans" take it to that level.
It's more common that pop bands have issues in mall centers, or concerts, that heavy metal bands.
It depends a lot on the listener.
What if the world discover that Hitler used to read the holy bible? that doesn't make the bible a sectarian or a role model.
one thing is the message and other thing is how to use the message (In any subject)

All genres of music are sectarian, and you can really look at this in two ways: One, many fans of a particular genre of music tend to classify themselves that way (e.g., goth, emo, metalheads, hip-hoppers). Then within a genre, you have even further segmentation amongst fans of a particular subgenre of music.

I'm not too sure of the use of that particular adjective in this setting since it has distinctly religious connotations. If you're trying to ask if heavy metal is a limiting or limited genre, then of course it is, because not everyone likes it. If you're trying to ask if it's a religious experience, then I'm sure it's that, too, for some.

No, it's a musical genre that has a distinctive subculture. I wouldn't call it 'sectarian,' so much as 'aggressively individualistic.'
