If Thierry Henry is described as a striker then there is no contest, he'll beat anyone hands down.
However, I like to think of him as an attacking midfielder or wing-forward. This is because he hardly stays up front all the time, like most strikers. You'll find him operating anywhere in the final 3rd.
So eliminating Henry, makes the search a bit more interesting. There are quite a number of candidates but I'll give you 5.
1. Andrew Johnson (Everton). Rather obvious given his current scoring form. But we must remember that he has always been banging in the goals with Palace, either in the Championship or during their ill-fated Premiership appearance.
He has a nose for goals and is usually 'at the right place, at the right time', a trait that all good strikers have.
2. Andriy Shevchenko ( Chelsea). Yes he has not hit form yet, and is struggling to adapt, but let's not forget why he costs 30mil.
He has top scored throughout his career be it with Milan or Dynamo Kiev.
He has an instinctive eye for goal, can shoot with either foot and possesses a good header. He has scored at every level, league fixtures, Champions League, Internationals etc.
Sooner rather than later, he'll hit 'his purple patch' and all this talk of being a failure, unsuitability for the English game etc, will be forgotten.
He has always been a striker who, when you need him to score in a big game, will oblige. This trait separates 'the good from the great'. Watch Andriy fly.
3. Didier Drogba (Chelsea). Jose Mourinho coveted him from the very start of his spell at Chelsea and you can see why. He has scored some very very important goals for the club, especially when his other partners were having their barren run. The fact the Ivory Coast qualified for the WC for the first time, further elaborates his enormous goal scoring contribution.
4. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer (Man Utd). Age and injury have slowed him down, but his reading and positioning remains first class. Whilst he won't top the goal scoring charts either for United or in the Prem, the timing of his goals will almost always, prove crucial. How many players are there in the Prem who can claim to have scored the winning goal in the top European competition, the European Cup Final?
5. Nicholas Anelka (Bolton). Whilst some may argue that my judgement is based on reputation rather than current form, the answer can be found in that often used phrase, 'Form is temporary, Class is permanent'.
Anelka's CV includes some of the top clubs in the continent. His goals have come in all competitions. He has also scored in very big fixtures like the FA Cup Final.
Even when he was on loan at Liverpool, his contribution in terms of goals and assisting his strike partner, has been important.
His goals (although lesser), will be one of the reasons why Bolton will not be sucked into any relegation dogfight and will be amongst the challengers for a European place.
That is my take on the best strikers. If I really had to choose just one, I'll stick with Andriy Shevchenko. There is a reason why he is a former European Footballer of the Year and even at 30, has at least 2 or 3 seasons more, to continue with his goal scoring prowess.

He's been the top league scorer for the last 4 seasons Henry of course. But if you take him out of the picture because he's in a league of his own. Then it becomes alot more interesting.
Robin Van Persie is a deadly striker of the ball. Shevchinko is a class act as well. Steve G though an attacking mid feilder but his strikes are amazing. Pederson from Blackburn is a good striker as well.

Even though he is not at the same form as last year, Thierry Henry is the best striker in the Premiereship and arguably in the world. He is the complete striker, able to go into the midfield and poach, able to create his own shots, able to make plays and crosses. And, unlike Drogba, who plays in a 4-3-3, Henry usually plays in a 4-5-1, where he often has a lot less support.

Best striker....on record in the Premiership....Thierry Henry....record elsewhere...would suggest Andriy Shevchenko even though he's firing more blanks than Elton John at Stringfellows. Watch out Premier League when he starts scoring and hits form.... How bout the worst striker????? I'll throw in a couple......Shola Ameobi...the words...'couldn't hit a barn door with a tractor' spring to mind......Thomasz Radzinski....best thing he can do...pack his bags and head off back to the Belgian League.....

I can't say it any better than Romanis2006. I agree with all of his choices, and with Shevchenko being the best.
