Well, if the governments of primarily Christian countries (the most powerful countries in the world for quite some time now) would stop committing all the wrongs that makes the Muslim world hate us, that would be a step in the right direction.
Thing is, it isn't about religion, it's about politics, economics, and history. Most Christian and Muslim people don't hate people of other religions (many do, but most people take a more "live and let live" stance regarding religion).
What's got people hating is the behavior of oppressive governments, and the violence and misery they inflict.
"It's always about power."

The problem is the media portrayal of these feelings. Most mulims and christians don't hate each other - the media (Arabic and Western) just likes to only show negative and inflamatory images and comments to try to cause outrage and offense and make everyone in each think that the other group hates them. I mean, when do you ever see television on Al Jazeera that is positive towards Christians? Or on regular TV that is positive towards Muslims? The news people just want everyone in the world at war so that they have more bad news to show on TV.

When nations stop making war for economic or political benefit in the name of religion and vice versa, when leaders stop using a religion as a propaganda and brain wash their people to follow orders, when strong countries stop interfering with other week and poor countries so that harmed and damaged people won't join a terrorist group as a final solution to bring back justice or degnity.

Let them kill each other off and then the rest of us can go on with the job of finding out exactly how we can make life on earth better than it has ever been with religious Bigots calling the shots. Obviously they could never get along in a million years. like trying to make two magnetic north poles stay together.

I am reminded of an episode of The X-Files where Moulder asks for world peace.
Do you know what he got?
He found himself being the only one on the planet. There will always be something to fight over. Religion just seems to be the favorite on the ticket right now.

If we could get rid of all the religious leaders who fan the flames of hatred I have a feeling all of us low life working stiffs would probably get along fairly well. We would have to get rid of all the politicians who build their own little kingdoms also.

Realism.
Religion is a product of language from a time when Man's brain was underdeveloped.
You stop hate by stopping its justifications.
