It's so hard to know without actually trying stuff out! Before selecting a career, I would try to talk to as many people in the business as possible to get a feel for what the work will be like. Ask lots of questions.

When I was in high school, I got a lot of encouragement to go into a technical field like science or engineering because I was really good at problem solving, math and science... I enrolled in an Engineering program at a well respected university. In retrospect, I don't think I met enough people actually doing the work before getting into it... I didn't have enough understanding of the work. I really didn't enjoy it...

It wasn't until I got a part time job in university that I actually began to get a feel for the kind of work that I liked. I was fortunate, that I hit on a field that really suited and inspired me. (Web development)

Anyway - talk to lots of people!! Maybe even volunteer somplace before making your decision. You might also try visiting a career consultant... maybe take a Meyers Briggs test too...

Do you want to be great at it or happy at it? We should all be so fortunate to be both, but that is not always the case. I'm pretty good at what I do, but I'm not happy. If I leave to go do what I'd rather do, I'd be happy, but not that good. (And it wouldn't pay enough to cover the bills.) Start with the things you would most like to do. If that doesn't work out for whatever reason, move on to something else. Like me, you may find that happiness and greatness don't necessarily come together. If that happens, you will have to learn to live with the sacrifices of not always having things exactly as you would like to have them. That's life! One other consideration: How happy would you be doing something you're no good at?

Just take a look at the kinds of things that interest you & see if there is a career or field that involves that. Or, try out alot of different jobs until you find one. There is no rule that says you have to stay at a job forever, if you don't like it- switch it up.

Only by trial and error. You may enjoy doing somthing as a hobby but might not like it was a job. Only way to know is to try.

I would like to open a day care for mothers who work, but dont make enough to cover child care, because most of these mothers go on welfare again because its too expensive to pay for day care.

something that interests you helps. For example, if you are a animal lover, then look for jobs where you can work with animals etc.
