A diagnostic scan looks for problems in the computer itself, usually in the hardware. For example, it looks for problems with your drives, memory, video card, networking devices, etc.

Virus scanning is looking for programs on you computer that may attack or damage the computer. Diagnostic scanning is checking the hardware in the computer to be sure everything is working. teo completely different things. Virus scanning is something you need to do constantly. Diagnostic scanning is only done when the computer is having a probelm that may be hardware related.

No virus scan scans for viruses (malware).
Diagnostics check your hardware and operating system is set up and functioning correctly. If u r having a problem that has not occurred before chances are it is due to malware, unless you have recently installed a new prog or piece of kit.
