I have had 3 kids all naturally. I prefer the natural way if at all possible. The recovery time is much quicker. I have know people who had c-sections that get an infection from the scar. It is also a surgery so it takes a while to get back in the swing of things.
The number of c-sections is on the rise. Some people don't want to deal with the pain of child birth. Some people want to know the date their child is coming. Other people have to medically have one and then after having the first c-section have their others by c-section as well.
It will be up to your wife. Most doctors won't do a c-section with the first unless it is necessary. These can include the baby being too big (they can help alleviate this by ultrasounds towards the end of the pregnancy to see how big the baby measures against your wife's body), the baby presenting feet first, the mother not progressing well during labor, the mother not being able to push adequately, or harm to the mother or baby during labor.
Just enjoy, either way it will be fine. If she has to have a c-section the scar will be low enough that you won't notice it when she is in a 2 piece and when her clothes are off, you need to be concentrating on other areas anyway.

Conventional medical wisdom says it's better to have the baby naturally if it can be done safely. A C-section has some risks, like heavy bleeding, blood clots in the legs or elsewhere. Also the recovery time is longer and a lot of doctors will refuse to deliver any babies naturally once a woman has had a c-section due to the risk of uterine rupture (the uterus breaking at the old surgery line during the birth of a later baby).
But if the risks of NOT having the section are more than the risks of having it, it's better to have the surgery. Usually C-sections are done because the baby is not doing well (problems with heart rate, etc), the mother has been pushing forever and is getting nowhere, or the baby doesn't fit through the birth canal (this is called dystocia when the presenting part of the baby is bigger than the birth canal).
But your doctor will recommend what's best based on your wife's particular case.

Only if you can afford to pay for a c-section would you be able to choose it without the doctor's consent. Insurance will not pay for the patient's preference of a c-section over v-birth. A doctor must deem it necessary for the health of the baby and mother.
I had 3 c-sections by my doctor's reccomendation. The first was an emergency c-section. The later 2 were c-section because my doctor felt it would be safer for me based on the 1st experience.
My scar is hardly noticeable, it is right along the hairline. I do know men like women to have c-sections so the sex will still be good afterwards. Recovery takes a little longer but it is not bad.

I had a C-section 4 months ago. The recovery is rough. I remember having to train myself to push with my arms just to get off the couch because my stomach muscles were "gone". It's tough and I was down for a a little over a week after I had my son. I needed a lot of help and it was kind of depressing because I couldn't do as much as I wanted to. I am still very tender where my scar is. I could care less about the scar though. I would rather have a healthy baby then worry about a scar.
Please note that my pelvic bone is too small and this is why I had to have a Csection. Otherwise i would have had a vaginal birth.

The other way is called vaginally. That's where the baby is supposed to come out so most people prefer that. Babies born via C-section should only be delivered that way if there is a problem. To many Doctors perform them for the wrong reasons and they are not needed as often as you think.
If a C-section is needed, they now cut below the bikini line anyway

I had a c-section, it was unplanned, and performed after 26 hours of labor. Yes, it really took them 26 hours to figure out that he wasn't going to fit through the birth canal. Anyway, my son is 3 1/2 and my scar is barely noticeable. My scar is almost completely white and right below the pubic hair line, so you can't even see it in underwear or a bikini. Now that I have had a c-section, I would prefer it over natural birth. I have had friends who have had natural births and they have ripped on the sides or below, had to have lots of stitches, and they were in a lot more pain than I ever was having my c-section done.

the scars are very low and become almost unnoticeable. Better a scar than a dead wife or baby, if there's an actual medical emergency. To avoid a high possibility of c/section, do your research on the hospital and OB. Some are more knife happy than others.

Vaginal all three times. And I much prefer it that way. The thought of a doctor cutting me like a fish gives me nightmares. I've been fortunate that all my kids turn just like they are supposed to. If I had to have a C-section, I would. But only for the safety of my child.

I had a vaginal delivery (thats what the other way is called) and I hope the next one comes the same way. I have seen C-Section scars and they are very slight and below the bikini line.

I had my daughter by c-section and I was actually recovered faster than my friend who had a vaginal with a tear. She was down for weeks and cried everytime she used the rest room and couldn't sit. My scar is so light, unless I look for it, I would never know it's there. I would rather have c-section after seeing that nasty sore she had for weeks. Mine was easy!
