I have a son who will be 15 next month. He is causing me a lot of heartache and I feel I have lost him. His behaviour has become appalling it includes, smoking, staying out late, thieving from family, lying continuously and now playing truant from school. His attitude is morose, angry and very rude. He snaps at his younger brother when he says hello to him. I need advice in how to sort this out what sort of reaction should I be giving and what punishments for the truanting ect. In particular he doesn/t know I know he wasnt at school today yet so how do I deal with it when he comes home. Any advice would be grately appreciated. He has little contact with his father as he lives away and sees him about 2 or 3 times a year and no phone calls but although he seems to get on with my partner of 9 years he has told his friends he cant stand him. Help !

cant you remember being that age? probably not as a boy i guess.
i was a teenage boy not too long ago and i can tell you that he'll feel like the entire world is against him, and probably will do for many years to come. with all those hormones flying around his body he's going to have a very difficult time ajusting, especially without a father figure he can look up to.
you've got to distinguish between truly bad behaviour and just normal growing up. we've all cut class once or twice, most kids try smoking and everyone snaps at their siblings and parents. thats just life, he'll grow out of it and feel very silly. none of these things means you're a bad parent.
just reassure him and let him know you're there for him. you cant punish straight away without warning, so let him know what will happen the next time he skips school or is late home. (in a calm and adult mannor)
what you really need to look out for is if he's becomming a thug or a yob. i know its the last thing any parent would accuse thier child of, or even dare to believe. but it will effect the rest of his life if he doesnt learn how to act responsibly in society. if this is happening i'd talk to a parenting councilor and get PROFESSIONAL advice.

Take a broom handle to him that should sort him out.My mum done it to me!! I used to laugh at her at the time but the odd time she actually "got" me and it was not nice.
It done the trick though!!!

Try "ask Frank", it gives advice to kids but also to adults I think.
