I put some kind of lubricant (Marvel Mystery oil) or something like that into the master cylinder, thinking it was brake fluid. On having my brakes changed, the mechanic showed me the rubber ring that inserts into the master c. cap. Rubber expansion-

I took off the master cylinder of the E-150 5 liter, and do not know what to do. Should I open the drain plugs on each wheel, to allow tainted fluid to escape? Then put on a new m.c. fill it with good, new brake fluid, then bleed them?

Drain all the fluid out and, if you're capable, put rebuild kits in all the wheel cylinders. As the Marvel Mystery oil expanded the rubbers in the master cylinder, it would do the same in the wheel cylinders.
Did the mechanic change them, too? If you trust your mechanic, see what he/she thinks.

You don't tell us what year, but if it is newer than about 1990, it is going to take much more than this.
ALL of the valves and control devices will require repair or replacement.
ALL of them that contain rubber components will have been damaged to the degree that you cannot rely on them for SAFE performance.
This has the potential to be a VERY costly mistake.
If you are only moderately capable mechanically (NOT a pejorative) you owe it to yourself and everyone else to take the little van to a REPUTABLE repair facility, preferably one displaying the ASE shingle, and have the system thoroughly checked and repaired.
this concerns your BRAKES, and thus your safety (not to mention mine).
Similar to airplane flights, there is only one part of the flight that is optional; the take-off, the landing is mandatory.
The moving is optional, but the stop is mandatory, and you certainly don't want to stop any way but under control.
If any of the rubber parts expand beyond a certain limit, not only can they leak and cause loss of braking, they can also cause seizure inside some of the components (Proportioning valve, RABS unit, etc.) and cause deterioration of braking effectiveness.

every component with rubber in it needs to be rebuilt or replaced. brake lines need flushed thoroughly or they will end up in the shape again.
