I need to get my house interior painted. I bought all the paint and supplies, but I do not have the time to paint my 1700 square foot home with vaulted ceilings. I want to get the house painted in the next few months because my wife might get pregnant soon and can't be around fumes.

I am a professional home theater installer. I do custom plasma installs, speaker installs and all the wiring for the house. I can ask for up to $100 an hour for my services. Do you think I should post a listing on craigslist asking to trade my home theater services for a painter/painters? Maybe I can work for someone for 8 hours for a day or two (or three?) and have someone paint my house?

Do you think its possible to trade services like this? Has anyone done that before? I want someone to do a good job!

We have used craigs list very successfully to do some barters for professional work. ($3,000-4,000 range)

I would just say use the same care you would use if you were hiring the person and check references, etc.

And, if you are willing to negotiate I'm sure you could broaden your responses.

best,

It is possible, and I have heard of it being done before. But if you are going on Craig's List or posting the trade, it might be a while (a long while) before someone contacts you to take you up on the offer. If you're on a time frame, you should just do it yourself.

Sure you can. You might want to talk to the builders in your area. Some of them probably have paint crews that work for them and in exchange for your services on one of their houses they might "farm" their paint crew out to do the job in your home. Try it!!

definitely. you can post to barter on craigslist, and it is free for the ad. you can also get some business if the deal works out well. just price it all out before you do it so neither of you get ripped off.

Yeah!! my dad does it all the time. My dad is a Air Conditioning Tech. And he worked on the neighbor' s condenser and didn't charge him instead the neighbor was a mechanic and my dad said that he will fix the condenser if the neighbor will fix his truck. You can do that. For sure.

Im sure that there could be some 'bartering' sites on the classifieds, or pennysaver or whatever that 'craiglist' is. Good luck!
