My 18 yr old daughter ended up in the county jail yesterday.
My boyfriend told me a month ago, he makes $10 thousand a month on the railroad.
Yesterday, he told his 28 yr old alchoholic son, who still lives at home and pays no bills, not to accept charges if she happened to call collect. I know my daughter, she will not call him. It would be a far stretch of the imagination for her to call his house. But if she did....
Let see $10, 000.00 minus about $4.00 phone call from the county jail = $9,996.00 a month. Do you think he could support himself on this?
FYI: My daughter was charged with domestic battery, but she got the worst end of the deal, her boyfriend beat the daylights out of her.
Tell me if you think my boyfriend of 5 yrs is being a little cheap? I left about $5 dollars worth of gas in his gas can. I never kept track until today. I am pissed!

My daughter can call my house and she knows I will accept a collect call. She is currently suffering from shame because I have begged for her to leave the abusive relationship. I am a nurse and I make more than enough to accept a phone call. She knows. She also has a very close relationship with my boyfriend and his family. He is closer to her than her own dad except for this. Cheap, cheap cheap!

I dont have to brag about how much money I make. I work hard for it and I would accept a phone call from his sons or his daughter. No questions asked.

Yes that's cheap and alittle mean... That's your baby even if she is 18 and got herself into a mess. He should be more supportive in this matter, things like that happen in life. He should understand that's your child and if she called she would want to speak to her mother. Sorry to hear your daughter is going through a domestic battery situation, hopefully everything will turn out good for her. I would just be point blank with your boyfriend and tell him that was hurtful. That just because your daughter is 18 doesn't mean you stop being her mom and that you are going to be there for her during the bad times and the good.

Cheap -- yes BUT is he doing this to teach her a lesson? My son was in jail and kept on calling and I kept on accepting until my phone bill was out of control (but then again I don't make that kind of money either). Does he not like her or ......I mean there must be some other hidden reason.......am I right????? If she's been getting beat she should have gotten out of course (before it escalated to this but then again hindsight is 20/20 and WE ALL make mistakes or wrong choices in our lives -- so I'm NOT putting her down either). I'm sorry you are in this situation -- I know what it's like -- somewhat of a different situation of course but still.....all I can say is if it is JUST the $$ he is worried about, yes, I would be pissed too.

You could look at it as him being cheap. You could also look at it as him not wanting your daugther calling his house. It migth not even be about the money, it may just be that he doesn't want to be involved with her being in jail. You could ask him why he won't accept the calls. If it's about money (he's a cheap bastard) you can tell him you'll pay for the call. If he has a problem with your daughter, dump him, because no man in worth coming between you and your daughter! Good luck, hopefully he's a good man and realize how stupid he's being.

Did he say to not accept the calls just because of the money? Maybe there are some underlying issues there. Either way, it's still his money and he has a right to not accept collect calls if he doesn't want to... even if it is not the nicest thing to do.

I don't wanna prematurely psychoanalyze you but it sounds as if there may be some deeper issues going on in your relationship with him.

$10,000 a month? Rich man. If he really makes that much then Id say he's cheap but why is it that your daughter cant call your house? Can you spare the $400 a pop for a phone call? You pay and offer to pay when she calld there but yes,my husband makes $5000 a month, thats half and even we can swing the phone call.

I don't think hes not accepting her call because of the cost of the collect call.

Maybe is he disappointed in her for getting herself in jail in the first place and not accepting her call is a way of him expressing that.

I, for one, believe in tough love. If your out there doing things your not suppose to be doing don't expect me to help you out, even if i was a billionaire! People need to learn responsibility and handing out things will not help them.

And I'm pretty sure theres more behind your daughters altercation.

I don't think he is being cheap. Maybe he sees her being in jail as a bad thing regardless if it is her fault or not. There are ALWAYS other options to domestic violence. Don't fight back - call police. Maybe he thinks that she made a bad choice and should be stuck with it. to Learn! Ask him why and I believe that is what he will say. I don't think it has nothing to do with being cheap.

Sorry.

Cannot believe your story one bit!

Maybe boyfriend got tired of being beaten up by her so he whammed her one. To bad.

So how come you not married to this so called rich guy? Are you more than 1 girlfriend? Or just met? His pay seems to high for me to agree to.

I think you need proof of his paycheck.

And besides he is never responsible for your daughter, you are on raising her.

Need family help like Dr. Phil tv show.

Hes cheap and selfish and that goes to show that hes really not worried about your daughter either. If he cant be dependable in a situation like that then you need to move on

Yes - he sound like he's being cheap. But he also might think that he doesn't need to accept responsibility for his non-biological daughter.
