Fight on!
The "2" figers form the V to begin Victory. Remind our team we are behind them and we will cheer them on until Victory is won.
We have our thing just as almost every school has theres. We are not number 2 the Trojans are always #1 in our hearts.

It is meant to form the letter "V".
"V" is for Victory. So during "Fight On" or "Conquest" the USC fans will raise up there victory signs. They will also put up the victory sign right before a kick off.

I believe the 2 finger tradition started in 1977 when I was a sophomore at USC. The university, which was established in 1880, made plans to celebrate its centennial in 1980 by launching a celebration called "Toward Century II". When an announcement was made at one of the football games about USC's pending second century as an academic institution some in the student section stood up and held up two fingers and started humming/singing along with the music as they do today. All the students joined in and waved two fingers for "Toward Century II". That's how I remember it. Though its origin may have been mostly forgotten, it's become a lasting tradition.
