Students get away with activities that adults in the community would go to jail for. Physical violence, extortion, weapons possession, drug possession and dealing , sexual assaults, sexual harassment, intimidation, attacks on homosexuals, conspiracy to commit crimes, theft, vandalism, etc. I have several teaching jobs available. Do you wish to apply?

No,
Schools in my district are no longer safe. And they haven't been safe since I was in school myself in the 80s. Drugs, alcohol, sex, violence, are abound and teachers have to take on the roles of parent and teacher. Now if a kid does something wrong it is not the kids fault, the system failed the child. When I was in school if I did something wrong it was my fault and I had to own up to it. Teachers are not allowed to teach responsibility for ones actions because it will make kids realize that many of the parents who have failed to be good parents are their parents.
Don't get me wrong, not all parents are this way, but the "Not my kid" mentality has over run the education system. Persoanlly, state schools should reopen and kids n bad families shold be placed into those schools.
We all have our Rights and Freedoms, but where did the RESPONSIBILITY for those rights and freedoms go?

NOT! Right after the massacre in that Amish school, the local news station did a piece on the "safety" of area schools. The ones in our town were wide open! Anyone could (and the camera crews DID) walk right in doors that were supposed to be locked! My kid goes to a small charter school, which I'm sure is even less safe.

When I taught H.S. in a city in Central MA, kids who came there from places like NYC were stunned that there were no metal detectors or guards! Sure enough, there were brawls, shoot-outs, a stabbing and drug dealers being let into the cafeteria daily.

No...most schools...everywhere in this country...are NOT safe!

I dont think any school is safe at this point. Kids have no guidance anymore, no one checking on what they are doing daily. Parents are giving children too much "privacy". I think its ridiculous that kids have guns, bombs, and everything in the home that they share with the parents, and the parents know nothing about it.

I felt that there were. Recently, I heard that someone took a gun to school, I have 14 yr old twin boys at that school, I freaked out!! Now-a-days, I am just not sure. What is happening to this world!!
Lack of respect for adults, Lack of respect for GOD....I say bring back paddlings in school and GOD into our lives!!
I am from the time when kids had respect for all adults!!

No, I think the more the news covers it the worst it gets . We never heard of this when I was in school. Maybe it's because thy stopped paddling in schools. Because kids just do what they wont to.

How can you really know?

I would have bet money that students in a one-room Amish schoolhouse would have been the safest students in the country.
