It is believed that someone who felt that gorillas should be treated the same as humans was the person who sparked off the AIDS epidemic. Who knows. I don't find them attractive and I don't believe they have any desire to be more human even though they do display a keen interest in learning. I don't believe enforcing educatiion on a naturally wild animal through captivity just to prove a point is right. It's in their nature to learn true, but what has that got to do with it. They should not be taken out of their natural habitat even for experimental use. It's has no purpose. Chimps are of no use to humans except for their entertaining ways. Putting them to work and live with a human is cruel. It leaves a chimp open to abuse and a human open to serious injury. They are chimpanzees at the end of the day and they react to provocation. They live in the wild and they are 5 times as strong as your average human. They don't make and sell their own produce so If they were to live in a city like some of us, they'd have to be escorted around like they were disabled, which they are not. Otherwise they'd be homeless, and i think a chimp is not one to beg for food. Think of a Saturday night out on the town. You let a chimp loose in a bar and you know you'll see similarities but If it did assault someone, how could he defend itself in court? Ooh ooh ah ah!? They belong where they are most comfortable, and that is the jungle. Humans have done enough studies to know the limit of chimp intelligence. Now let them be is what i say.

As a society we cannot award human treatment of chimps. They do not have the brain capacity to become productive members of society as we live it.
To give them what they need we should leave them in the wild where they live, breed and are happy not in some cage as lab rats or in homes or zoos.
I am all for humane treatment of all animals but there is a line to draw.

Interesting philosophical point.
The way you are brought up does impact upon your behaviour. Your statement looks at the lowest common denominator though. A child brought up by dogs is not going to reach its full potential. A child brought up by chimpanzees same - although this presupposes that animals do not use language in the same way humans do - i.e. abstract thought. In the experiments with Washoe (chimp) she was taught to use basic words, and was able to communicate with her handlers using sign language. She supposedly mastered a number of subject verb object sentences, although she could not always put them in the correct order. There was no evidence to suggest Washoe knew what she was doing - the question being did she want her red cup, or was she just asking for her red cup becuase she wanted to please her handlers? Sadly Washoe wasn't able to tell her handlers to ram the red cup because red wasn't her colour. She wasn't capable of abstract thought.
Chimps should be left in their natural habitat. If they want to be like us, let them build their own houses, roads, schools etc.

Chimps raised as humans do NOT develop the same characteristics as humans. In particular, they never develop the same language skills. And strenuous efforts have been made to teach chimps sign language, but they never even approach what humans can learn.

how many chimps have engineered an interstate highway or cultivated a field of tomatoes, when was the last time a chimp invented a new computer chip? uh, never. chimps are dumb animals. maybe smarter than a fish but animal none the less. They deserve to be left in the wild to eat, and sleep in peace.

Chimps are not human. Their IQ may be better than a dogs but it is still that of an animal. Dogs, rats, chimps should be treated as non human creatures. That is what they are. Parrots may be able to mimick phrases but that doesnt mean you can have a conversation with them.

No, they should however be treated with respect as with all animals. by asking the question are you saying that they should be given the same rights as humans? They would be just wrong......It would be legal for humans and chimps to breed and that just aint right.....lol

Yes i belive they should to a point, but i also think there should be
limits.i don't beleve chimps should eat at the same table as the humans, nor do i belive that they should be alowed in public places unless it's a park.
let me know how you feel on the subject.

If you mean a human with an IQ of about 20 that would rip your arm off and bite your body worse than any dog if you angered it, then maybe.
If you bear in mind that its natural habitat is totally different to that of a human, then no.

I don't think a good upbringing is going to turn a chimp into a civilised person who can behave responsibly and be held accountable for his actions by law.
I know that the pea brained liberal crowd love giving people rights without responsibilities but this is surely too much even for them.
