At your local craft store there is a double sided tape called Super Sticky or Red Line or something like that and is usually found with the scrapbooking or paper crafts. It comes in sheets,1/2" and 1/4" widths. Apply to the pillar candle in both widths either horizontally or vertically then pull off the backing one strip at a time and roll in tiny seed beads, tiny glass marble beads or glitter. Use different colors for each stripe if desired. You can also melt a small amount of candle wax and decoupage bits of tissue paper onto the surface of the candle using the melted wax as your decoupage medium. The double stick tape and beads also work well on plain picture frames. Also using silicone glue and a colorful assortment of buttons you can cover the picture frame. Other ways to decorate the frames would be with seashells, small ceramic tiles, small silk flowers pulled off the long stems, kids novelty erasers, little toy cars, dominoes or dice, scrabble tiles, checkers or decoupage with the patterned part of fancy napkins or sheet music or the pages of an old book and then glue on a couple of other embellishments related to the pattern such as a tiny violin or small book and miniature reading glasses.

Take certain clippings or items from experiences you have shared with the person and make it a part of the gift. For example, I once made a frienship jar for a close friend. I used a see through mason glass container. Inside of it I put smirnoff caps, her fav beverage, sea shells from a beach trip, a cut-out of the word FRIENDS from the tv show...her favorite show, a tiny plastic baby bottle because she's in early childhood, a ketchup packet from her favorite fastfood joint, etc and decorated. It came out amazingly well! The final touch was a silly poem about her which I typed up and hodge-podged to the front/outside of the jar. It came out sooo cute! Good luck!

i once received a picture frame that had been decorated with pieces from a jigsaw puzzle. it's so cute. plus, it gives you something to do with a puzzle that's missing a piece or two.

for candles, get a good sized glass bowl. put a pillar candle in the center. the candle should be taller than the bowl. fill the bowl with christmas ornaments. this is a great centerpiece. plus, you can fill it with different stuff throughout the year. candy hearts in february, easter eggs in spring, etc.

Go to your local craft store. We have a Micheal's here and they have brochures and classes you can take to get ideas about doing this. These are good ideas.

Try adding beads, paint or stickers to either of those. There are a wide variety of beads, stickers and rub-on paints to make it suitable to the person's tastes or hobbies.
