A financial aid reimbursment check was mailed to my daughter 17 at the time. the check was for $778. But $500 of that money was not suppossed to go to my daughter. The 500 was from a free class that my husband obtained for her because he is a professor at the university. The 500 was not supposed to be turned for cash. So, I signed the check and gave my daughter $400 of the money. She said that what I did was illegal by signing her name. I also signed my name under hers. We returned 500 to the university even though we still gave her exra money. The university in turn made a check out to my husband for the 500. My daughter enlisted the help of her boyfriends uncle who is running for county commisioner who threatened me with criminal prosecution if I did not pay my daugher the full amount of the original check $778, and also I was to sign over the car she was using from my name to hers. I really felt threatened and I did what they said. Isn't that blackmail?

What you should have done is return the check to the financial aid people and notify them of their mistake and requested a new correct check in the lesser amount.

I would file a criminal complaint regarding the extortion (signing over of the car in lieu of criminal charges regarding the check). I would also contact the person who ran against this county commissioner in the last election and ask for their advice.

You are in the middle of a real mess and need to act in your own best interests. You can't stop them from doing whatever they are going to do, but you can call their bluff and put an end to the extortion attempts. Get a lawyer. Now.

The whole kafuffle sounds like a huge misunderstanding that started with the university putting two accounts into one check. I am very surprised about that because each check has to be a disbursements from the university for the specific file. Their accountant must be an idiot !. How can he/she balance the books that way? The accounts will not ever add up. Complain to their comptroller and ask for an audit. Fire the accounts payable person and fire their signatories.
Mixing staff salary and student aid reimbursements? Those belong to completely different sections and departments. Are they from the stone age school of accounting?
There has to be two checks to clear up the two accounts under two different names. It didnt matter that they were father and daughter.
I am sorry but I dont really get the accurate picture of the problem. Legally, if the check was under her name, she should get all of the money.

Did you, by any chance, discuss this with her before doing so? Don't know if you did anything illegal where a minor is concerned, but you might want to ask a lawyer. If she wasn't supposed to get the full amount of that money, you can sue her for the $500. I wouldn't have given in without checking first.

I understand your stress, i'm an person and that i do no longer very lots experience tender occurring business enterprise journeys by airplane, i've got self belief like YIKES, will I make my flights, i do no longer understand my way around... and what no longer... yet each and every little thing constantly seems ok. once you arrive to the airport to envision in, you may ask the female there the place you will board the flight at. Your fee ticket(s) will checklist on it your passenger seat selection. once you board the airplane, it is going to likely be coated with storage cabinets above the seats which will checklist the seat selection they are. So it quite is not confusing to locate your seat, if the flight is long, the airplane will furnish you a unfastened meal, (some planes could value for a meal - so be sure you shop some additional money with you) if the flights are short, the airplane terminal would have a foodstuff courtroom placed interior so which you may purchase something from there (bear in mind they are form of spendy), once you arrive to the situation you're headed you may see a number of or maybe one conveyor belt that has bags going around in a circle, while you're uncertain which conveyor belt you're meant to snatch your bags from ask somebody on the help table... extra effective than probably nevertheless if its a brilliant airplane terminal than you will see the call of your airplane like "UNITED airlines" published above it... basically wait in front of it until eventually you spot your bags and %. it up and your waiting to pass.... another component you're able to do, is locate out if everybody on your flight is getting off an analogous place you're and shop on with them over to the suited conveyor belt...

first of all checks made out to a minor can be deposited in the parent/ guardian's account. the minor does not need to sign the check. you have to endorse it in a different way. in the signature field you need to write the minor's name(your daughter) below that you have to write daughter of ****(your name) here is an example.......mary joe p daughter of susan joe.

you did the same thing, however instead of your daughter's name you signed for her. but YOU DID NOT DO ANYTHING ILLEGAL. WHAT YOUR DAUGHTER IS DOING NOW IS ILLEGAL. YOU NEED TO TAKE LEGAL ADVICE TO TAKE AN ACTION AGAINST HER

If she is a minor, and you are a legal guardian, you are entitled to do this kind of things in her name.

Also, there are no laws that say that the car she uses has to be her personal property. This is definitely blackmail, or at least not legal strong arm tactics.

How she likes it and what your relations will be when she's of age to handle all of her business herself is another matter entirely.

Your daughter sounds like a b itch.
How could you threaten your own mother?
I'd throw the money at her and tell her to get out of your face until she's ready to apologize to you. After the thousands of dollars you spent raising her ungrateful a$$..
See your own lawyer if she wants to play that game....

My mother did the same thing with social security I received for the death of my father (i was sixteen). She opened an account with both our names, so she just deposited it and took the money. I didn't get a dime. Do I think she's a jerk for it, YES!
