Ok.... 1st off Feel free to say what you want...I won't report you!!!
Why do poeple report others answers or questions? It is obvious that some questions are not serious, or are ment to invoke a reaction.
I feel that everyone can say their opinion, 1st Amendment. I may not agree with it, but they have the right WITHOUT limitations.

SOOOO... The big question. Why do people feel as if they need to monitor other peoples questions or answers?? If you don't like it look elsewhere! Why not offer CONSTRUCTIVE comments? Or just play along? If you want to bash, swear, yell, complain, or ect I feel you have the right to do it. I don't need others to protect me from someone elses answers...Or is it that you are trying to control the answers because they need to agree with your opinions?

I agree with most comments. I have ready the guidelines...but feel that rules are sometimes waaaay to strict. I feel that maybe we could benifit from a "Mature" setting that would allow only legal adults to view & post to certain questions. That way as an adult you can say what you want any way that you want.

I think the report function is there to help Y! Answer's mods, even though it end up being abused by some. It's bound to happen.

And yes, instinctively speaking, some people want others to agree with their opinion. Consider yourself lucky you don't fall into that category.

There happens to be many people especially young females here that think they are know it all's, Just read some of there answers that's the farthest thing from the truth. And I don't mean all females to offend anyone, then there are many here that fit into the childish factor. There should be a system in affect where certain people are designated to decide what stays and what goes people that are impartial without a narrow minded agenda.

I know what you are saying but there are children at this site and that is why some people report questions or answers but also the legal adults you're talking about might be as immature as those who are kids. get it? so in a way, I like the community guidelines, it keeps things in place for some of the time. I know you can't prevent every crime but for every bad thing less commited in this world, we're are one less from danger. I hope you understodd what I just said. hehe

There are younger people who use this site (like my 13 year old sister, for example), and there are just some questions that are vulgar or sick. Generally, I am pretty hard to offend, but if I see something that I wouldn't want my sister stumbling upon...I will report it. Also, if I see anything racist, about child molestation, etc...I will report it. Otherwise, I don't really care, and I don't report that often. Everyone in America does have their first amendment right, but this is a privately owned website that has set up rules and regulations about the content that users can post here.

I don't think that folk feel the need to monitor others questions or answers at all, or that they are trying to control the answers because they need to agree with your opinion. For those that have reported abuse and openly stated (rare) in the answer area that they were reporting someone, I can say they seemed to have good reasons. You say "everyone can say their opinion, 1st Amendment", then why do you have a problem with someone having the right to complain? It is their opinion.

I know what you mean. I asked a question about the obesity epidemic (it is a fact) and I got reported and a warning that I was offensive. I guess people take this forum to seriously and they even worry about grammer instead of the question. We sometimes take shortcuts to type online and this is not school but so many people seem to think it is. When I ask a question and get an offensive answer I usually add a detail to my question indicating that I don't do a certain thing the person said I did but I don't report them or anything. People just need to lighten up

Most of the people who post rediculously offensive questions are just in dire need of attention... I would assume they have half of a brain and know they will get reported by the folks who just look for stuff to report. I usually play along or just move on to something else... unless it's about child abuse or something of that nature that people just should not joke about.
I've noticed many questions on here from angry people who do not like the sorts of questions posted by folks they don't like or don't agree with. I think most would not have the nerve to say these things to ANYONE in real life.

If you offend someone, you will be reported. That person who is asking the question is suppose to write "this isn't a serious question" . That's when the person who isn't offended won't report you as an abusive.
