a sound is a file like any other...so of course you can download, edit, or do anything you want with it...but you won't be able to listen to it without a sound card/device.

it sounds to me as if you are having driver issues - it would be worth contacting Dell and asking them to help you resolve the problem (I'd say that there's a 99% chance that you *do* have a sound device, its just that windows is not recognising it)

You can look up the details about this Computer at the Dell Website. Check to see if your computer has a built in Sound Controller chip. If yes then install the proper Software drivers for it and tweak the Audio settings.

If not, simply buy a PCI Sound Card and install it in the computer. Install the Software drivers and connect a pair of good quality speakers externally to the Sound Card and you will be sounded in no time.

Go to Control Panel > Sounds and click the Hardware tab. If there's no sound card or on-board sound chip listed, then your computer doesn't have sound hardware. Buy a sound card and install it, or buy a new computer.

If you do have sound hardware (if a device is listed or your computer has a place to plug in speakers), then the device list should include the name of the device's manufacturer. Go to the manufacturer's website and download the latest driver for your device.

if it's dell you probably have a on-board sound card. Vist the dell website - www.dell.co.uk to see if you can find your model of computer and then get the nessescary software. Alternativly re-set your entire computer back to factory mode by visting the website, i think it's a simple matter of hitting shift and F8 or F11 or something like that when you startup the system.

Hope this helps!

appears like your audio driving force is the two disabled or lacking. try this: circulate on your start up button, circulate on your administration Panel, opt for equipment. on the Hardware tab, opt for "device supervisor". There must be an expandable selection mentioned as "Sound, Video, and interest Controllers". If there is, expand that, and navigate on your Audio driving force (this is a style of categories/manufacturers, so i'm unable to call it right here). stunning click it, pick homes, and it will show its status for you. you additionally can pick to enable/disable it. in case you do not see your driving force or the Sound/Video/GameController menu, then your driving force is in all possibility lacking/uninstalled. you will ought to reinstall it, which would be achieved out of your computers producer internet site (case in point, the two Dell/HP/Toshiba/etc. web content) it would be a somewhat basic, step by making use of step technique to place in the driving force.

Investigate getting a sound card for the machine. Aftermarket sound cards are widely available and not expensive. Even without the card, you can download sound files from Internet sources, but you will need a sound card to play them.

Your sound controller is either disabled or the drivers are not loaded. Use control panel, system, hardware, device manager to check the status. Then go to http://support.dell.com and download the correct drivers for your system and install them!
