Leadership is a lot like parenting or coaching. You must first of all be consistant. This lets people know what to expect. You must also be open to new ideas and creativity. This allows teachers to experiment and come up with new solutions. You must encourage teamwork. Sharing solutions is a great motivator and helps work out problems. You need to let people know, before a violation, what is acceptable and what is not. Include consequences of violations. When giving evaluations, always give them an area of improvement along with ways to make that improvement. If you remember that you are in education because you love learning, and so are the teachers you will create a culture that encourages learning.

There are three basic styles of leadership.
Autocratic: Where the decision is made by the leader alone without input from the group.
Democratic: Where several group members are asked for their input on how to handled a task.
Delegative: Where the leader allows the group to make its own decisions.
These are very minimal explainations of the basic styles of leadership. for a more indepth study check out these styles on the web. A good start is at ChangingMinds.org
