This was her first baby and he is quite well endowed for a newborn. Over a month old now his penis has almost no skin left on it at all. You can clearly see the scar line where he was circumcised more toward the base of his penis than around the head and the lighter colored inner skin from the head to the scar is
about a inch. The scar is about an inch behind the rim of the head.
She thinks it looks ok and is fine and that its just because he has a fairly large penis for a baby. I think too much skin was cut off. Is this ok??Any other moms had experience with this?

I don't know, but if my next door neighbor was that interested in my baby son's penis, I would be asking questions about her!

Half of the people responding to this questions are misinformed idiots who know nothing about penile health and care and know nothing about circumcisions.
First of all, the foreskin IS NOT extra skin that should be chopped off. The person who said too much can't be chopped off doesn't know anything. Too much CAN be removed and in many cases HAS been! There are lawsuits pending from botched circumcisions all the time. There are also hemorrhages from circs and even a few full penile amputations and death from circumcisions - yes, even in America.
Anyone who thinks infant circumcision is just a little snip of unnecessary skin needs to do their research and check out a video of a circumcision. -

As far as your friends baby, it could be that too much skin was removed and the child will have painful erections at the scar line once he reaches puberty. But, he may not. Skin can stretch so it might not be an issue. Many times, a cut penis will look like it disappears into the fatty pad of the pubic area after it's cut (as a baby) but it will grow and look longer when the child is older.
But it is very possible that the Dr. botched the circumcision and there would be nothing wrong with the neighbor getting a second opinion from a pediatric urologist concerning her son.

I love my sons and I'd never cut their perfectly good skin. So I don't have personal experience on it but I am a Registered Nurse in Texas. I've seen (way to) many circumcisions performed on unconsenting babies during my nursing career. More than a few have been botched circs that did/will require additional surgeries, either for functional or cosmetic reasons. It sounds like your neighbors Dr. took off too much skin. Tell her next time she has a baby to keep the child intact, the way nature intended.

This means this boy got a tight circumcision. He will probably have tight feeling, uncomfortable to painful erections in his teen years (I knew this pain), when his penis should be attaining its maximum length. The tight skin will restrain the penis growth resulting in a shorter penis. Gradually the pain will subside as the skin stretches and the erectile tissues quit trying to get longer.

Another problem is that the lengthening penis will rob skin from the scrotum, resulting in hair on the shaft of the penis. This will not cause the male much of a problem but his female partner will feel like she is getting bottle brushed.

But the damage is done; there is not a damn thing you can do to fix it now. What could they do, shorten his shaft to match the skin that’s left? This is one of the biggest reasons not to circumcise; the doctors screw up!

COMPETENT DOCTORS can treat the rare problems that occur in uncircumcised males without surgery; INCOMPETENT DOCTORS circumcise. So there you have it this doctor is so incompetent he can't even carry out a mutilation correctly!

Complications occur at a rate of about one out of ten circumcisions, while most are said to be minor (I don’t know by who’s standards), some result in serious disfigurement or loss of function or even the total loss of the penis or life of the child. (CAN YOU IMAGINE DEALING WITH ANY OF THESE RESULTS OF AN UNNECESSARY ELECTIVE SURGERY?) These things happen in even major hospitals in this country!

A boy’s penis is HIS (it is not his mothers property!!) it should be left as it was made. Parents have only custodial rights over the health and welfare of a child they do not own him.

Some doctors do use a local some still do not. The doctors don't think it is necessary because the little guys are easy to tie down and can't get up and leave or defend themselves anyway. Plus once the cutting begins the boy goes into shock and may even quit crying.

Does it really hurt the baby? If they give him a local that will wear off in a few hours, the pain isn't just during surgery it goes on for at least a week. Have you ever had a fingernail ripped off? The pain goes on and on for days.

Just because the boy can't tell you how bad it is doesn't mean that it is not painful. If you ignore a child's crying long enough they will quit crying, as it is not doing them any good anyway, nobody is making the hurt go away.

The thing is it is such an unneeded pain. The reasons that are used for circumcising are totally false.

If a doctor says circumcision is needed, it is because he/she doesn't know or want to know how to treat an intact penis. He can make more money cutting than he can by prescribing a cream to treat whatever little problem might arise.

More and more little boys are being left intact; those that are cut are going to see that they are missing something. Some day they will look it up and find just what was taken from them, without their consent. Do you want your son to ask, "Why did you have my penis cut? What gave you that right?

I see a lot of females answer these questions, like they have so much experience with what it is like to be circumcised. They have no idea! If her clothing was to grate against her clitoris every day all day, a woman might get the beginnings of an idea. They think it is just a flap of skin; with 240 feet of nerves and 20,000 specialized nerve endings the foreskin is comparable to the female clitoris.

It comes to this; some new mothers are so damn lazy they are willing to have their new baby cut on because somebody said it is easier than cleaning him or teaching him hygiene.

Joann r you are a freaking idiot! That “surplus or extra skin that is not needed” is the equivalent of your clitoris!! It has 240 feet of nerves and 20,000 nerve endings (that is what we feel with).

Lindsey said it so clearly: “Why do you care? Is a penis really worth arguing about?” you people don’t care about this boy’s, or any other boy’s, even your own son’s life; just so that they don’t inconvenience you or take time away from doing important things like shopping for shoes.

And as far as the Ped. or any other doctor saying anything bad about the job that was done, or even caring, the only thing they care about is if they are getting paid! They will not say anything about the butchery that was done to the boy because: 1. They may have done the damage. 2. They may have received referral fees from the butcher that did it. 3. The damage is done; there is not a damn thing that can be done to fix it.

Sue: You are a ray of sunlight to this dismal topic. Thank You!

You are going to have to talk to the parents! O know it's an awkward way to introduce yourself, but this is more for the boys protection than anything else. I say this, because there are some very sick people out there who would get excited by seeing a young boy with his genitals out in plain view, especially if there's no adult watching them. Try taking some baked goods over, introduce yourself and welcome them to the neighborhood. In the course of your conversation, let them know that you noticed this, and you were concerned for the boys because of the possibility of some sick person seeing this and trying to take advantage of them. This really is a normal little boy thing, I think it's just this fascination that they even CAN do this. A former coworker of mine told me about her little cousin being fascinated by learning he could pee outside (from his grandpa) and how much trouble they had convincing him to stop doing it. There were several concerned calls from the daycare center, because he was whipping it out in the play yard! LOL! Anyway, approach it with a friendly, concerned attitude, giving the parents the benefit of the doubt that they may not even realize that their sons are peeing in the front yard and might be even more horrified then you are, if you can imagine that!

The inner skin between the scar and the head is normal and good. That was the part that was inside the foreskin and after the circumcision gets turned to the outside.
The inner skin is lighter in color and more sensitive than the outer skin. Some Drs. cut off to much of the inner skin and leave to much of the outer skin which looks like the shaft skin all the way to the head. The inner skin is the light colored skin from the scar to the head.
His circumcision sounds normal to me and that he just had most of the outer skin cut off and he was left with mostly inner skin which is better for him even if it is a little tight. Most women prefer circumcised over uncircumcised. I had my sons circumcised, my husband is circumcised, my sisters all had their boys circumcised and there has never been a problem. A neat circumcised penis looks a hundred times better than an icky uncircumcised one.

Your neighbor and you can disagree all you want but it is up to her to go and have it checked out by her pediatrician. I have four sons and they were all circumcised and they all looked different. My second son however did not have enough skin taken off and they showed me ways to clean him and ho to take care of it. If she waits too long it will be too traumatic a process to try to rectify. Maybe you could try and convince her to at least prove you wrong by having her take her son to the doctor.

yes, coming from a mother of 5 sons who where all circumcised, they cut too much skin off of the penis. With all of my 5 sons who where pretty well endowed too, we never saw scareing anywhere. Yes it was bloody for the first day, but it goes away. If the scar is too big and noticeible, it most likely will stay with him forever. I think you are right as far as the dr. cutting too much skin off. But talk to your dr. about it, i'm no dr..

The foreskin is surplus or extra skin that is not needed. Some doctors just trim the tip of skin where as others trim 40%, 50% or more of the foreskin off.
He should be fine as no two circs are alike. Some are loose and baggy, some are stretched and tight. I'm sure the ped or Ob had a reason for doing it like that.
