You need to register with an agency. The ones with the most work are usually based in london, check out these web sites for help. www.filmtvextra.co.uk
or starnow.co.uk
you can always google search for your area, and check your local paper, these agencies are always looking to register more people.
A local agent is always the best place to start, smaller numbers see.
But be careful some may charge big fees for the priviledge, but there are some free ones around and some others that have offers like 50% back after 6 months if they haven't found you any work.
Good luck.

Every week there is a newspaper that comes out called The Stage! and at the back you will find lots of contact details for this type of work and all big newsagents sell it,good luck.

Extras are often called "background" or "atmosphere" and there are casting agencies that specialize in extras and provide them to movies and television. Check the I'net or phone book.
