Depending on the fabric, if its leather, or wool, then NO. If its cotton, or a mixture of Polyester and Cotton, There are a few things you can try. First thing is to treat the stain with spray and wash, cant use a stain stick, its gotta be a spray on type of stain remover. Allow it to soak for an hour or so, then rinse off with a hose. If the jacket has a liner, then wet the jacket first, then apply the stain spray. Allow it to soak for an hour or so, and again rinse with a hose.

If this jacket means nothing and is just used outside and so on and you dont care how it looks afterwards, use Simple Green, or any commercial cleaner / degreaser. Again, allow it to soak, then rinse off. And finally, apply the stain spray once more, then toss it in the wash by itself.

This used to work for me on my coveralls when I was in the Marines. But it wont work so good on getting out most common types of greases. It will work with GMD, and other synthetic greases. Good Luck

Remove as much gasoline as possible with a dull knife or spoon.

Stain Removal Step 2.

Blot the remaining area with a clean cloth to absorb more gasoline.

Stain Removal Step 3.

Sprinkle the stain with baking soda to absorb any remaining gasoline.

Stain Removal Step 4.

Rub dishwashing liquid into the stain and allow to sit for two to five minutes. Soak for 30 minutes in hot water and dishwashing liquid.

Stain Removal Step 5.

If the stain remains, apply a thick baking soda/water paste to the stained area. Let the baking soda dry, and brush it off the stained area.

Stain Removal Step 6.

If traces of the stain remain, apply a stain remover stick, gel, or spray and let stand for 5 minutes.

Stain Removal Step 7.

Wash in the hottest fabric recommended for the fabric.

Hints For Tough Gasoline and Diesel Stains

If you've doused your clothing with gasoline, and the smell still remains after you've followed the steps above, here are a few more things to get the smell out.

Vinegar
Soak the clothing in a vinegar/water mixture for 30 minutes or longer.

2. Orange Cleaner

An orange cleaner added to the wash load can help break down the traces of gasoline and get rid of the smell. Look for an all-purpose cleaner derived from oranges, like OrangeGlo's Orange Clean All-Purpose cleaner or Fantastik Orange Action Cleaner. If you've doused a gallon of gasoline on thick denim jeans, you may need to use the whole bottle.

Hi Judy. You need to degrease the jacket for one thing. Find a dry cleaner who can carefully treat the spot with a degreaser, and then launder the jacket for you. Next, hang the jacket outside for a few days to let it air out, applying Febreze 3 times a day and letting it dry between applications. This worked for me when my kids stockings for Xmas were the innocent victims of my cats knocking over tiki torch fluid in my garage of all things!! That, along with diesel fuel are both petroleum based and need to have the spots lifted, launderend then aired out to clean. Good luck.

You will have to leave your jacket outside for a while to get the smell out. In the summer, I would say it will take you at least a week to get the smell out, in fall count on it being longer.
