Depends. There is a balance. If we put just enough to kill ht eharmful bacteria without it being a large enough amount to cause cancer then that's your winning solution. This is the goal of most water treatment plants.

You have to choose between what is commonly called "the lesser of two evils" Almost every chemical nowadays presents some risk of causing cancer, depending on the concentration or exposure to it. If you use chlorine PROPERLY, it will kill most germs that can harm us. However if you choose to avoid using chlorine, thus eliminating any associated cancer risk, the germs that may have been killed by the chlorine might get you sick. Yes! if misused, chlorine can be an extremely dangerous chemical. For the most part its PROPER use in pools is considered safe for skin exposure. I hope that helps you.

If you left the chlorine out of the water, you may well not live long enough to get a cancer!! You need to do a little reading on all of the problems with water contamination from bacteria in the past. Thyroid being one of the most common along with cholera.

I have read that Chlorine is suspected to increase the risk of bladder cancer. Indirectly it can increase chloroform levels in water leading to an increased risk of liver cancer.

One of the advantages of having an aeration nozzle on faucets is to have the air force the chlorine out of the water. This also improves the taste.

There has been a switch in the past few years to chloramine, a derivative in which chlorine is reacted with ammonia, that slowly undergoes a reverse reaction to release chlorine.

I myself think this is much worse, as you cannot force it out of the water with air. Washing machine manufactures have had to switch to using different hoses because the chloramine eats away at the traditional hoses. Something I think does not bode well, except for SS future finances by reducing the proportion of old people by long term use of chloramine treated water.

You can get cancer from anything now adays. Why not enjoy yourself. Chlorine not only just helps with germs but it also helps keep algae from taking over the pool. I had a pool growing up and we used lots of chlorine and none of us 6 kids have cancer, nor do my parents.

You are worried about chlorine?! LoL.... Do some research on what fluride does to your insides. (Fluride is contained in our water too!)
