What is a colposcopy?
A colposcopy is a way your doctor can examine your genitals, vagina and cervix closely. A colposcope is an instrument that shines a light on the cervix and magnifies the view for your doctor. At the beginning of the exam, you lie back and place your feet in the stirrups as you would for a Pap smear. Your doctor inserts a speculum into your vagina and opens it slightly so he or she can see your cervix. Then your doctor applies a vinegar solution to the cervix and vagina with a cotton ball or swab. The vinegar makes abnormal tissue turn white so your doctor can identify areas that may need further evaluation.

Cervical smear tests are done to prevent cancer of the cervix. Cells from the cervix are looked at under a microscope. Most smear tests are normal. If abnormal cells are found they can be treated before they turn to cancer.

It is when they freeze off the bad cells. it doesnt hurt to much just a little cramping as if you are on your period. It only takes about 10 min. They will prob. tell you to take some tylenol for the pain. After you may have some discharge for about 2 weeks. I have had 2 of them done and im still showing abnormal, not to say that'll happen to you.

It's like a bigger pap test, only they take a bigger piece of tissue getting many layers instead of just a scraping.
It's no big deal, you might spot a little bit afterwards but don't worry about it.

You have a little bit of your vaginal wall sliced off for futher testing... You probably have HPV... 98% of sexually active women get it even if they are using protection and it can cause cancer so they watch it VERY carefully. It doesnt hurt, more like pressure.
