there are always germs everywhere.. it's a fact of life.. and yes, there will be some germs on your couch.. and yes, it is possible that you could get an infection if there is a decent sized culture of some germs, or if you have a compromised immune system.... but why are you worried about it? are you a germiphobe? your body has a lot of natural defenses against infection, the first one being your skin! so let your body do it's job and take a seat and relax.. and remember, the immune system needs a workout just like every other part of your body! if you don't let it work a little it will just get weaker

Very few germs can live for more than an hour exposed to the air. Even HIV is a delicate virus that dies all by itself after one hour of being exposed to air. Most germs and viruses are passed through hand contact, coughs, and sneezes.
Wash your hands very often. Sneeze and cough into your sleeve--not on your hands where the germs can be easily spread. And don't worry about upholestry.

generally NO - the skin acts as a very good barrier for the immune system. it does depend on the germ but also on whether you have any open wounds or if you are immuno-compromised (eg have HIV or on chemotherapy). Therefore for most germs (which we are covered with many normal ones anyway) and for most people the simple answer is no.

Everything you touch can carry some germs so don't worry about it too much because your immune system has had plenty of practise dealing with you touching germs all day long and chances are you won't pick up anything bad.

No. But if there is a break in your skin and the germ gets inside you through a cut or open sore you could become infected.

rarely is infection passed in this manner, because bacteria and viruses tend not to live long on inanimate surfaces. And if your skin is intact, nothing will pass thru it. So, no, if your back touches the back of a chair that may or may not have some sort of infectious agent on it, if the skin on your back is intact, you will not become infected.

Your skin has so many germs on it every day that you could get sick from anything. You would usually have some immunity, but you can be carrying staph bacteria, e.coli, etc. That's why you should never touch your mucus membranes (eyes, nose, mouth) with your dirty hands.

If so You had better go out and buy a space suit so you will be protected.
Of course not. That is what the skin is for to protect the body.

possibly scabies I think.:
Scabies is spread by personal contact, e.g., by shaking hands or sleeping together or by close contact with infected articles such as clothing, bedding or towels. It is usually found where people are crowded together or have frequent contact, and is most common among school children, families, roommates, and sexual partners. Scabies can be spread by the insect itself or by the egg
