It is something that almost 40% of men (and women) will have to come to terms with by the age of 35. Contrary to popular belief, women can also expereince genetic hair loss. The primary difference is that women rarely go completely bald as men do. One thing that is different from baldness in men is that while females also have thinning of the hair and shorter growth cycles, there is no recession - the front hairline remains about the same. Interestingly, when men with prostate cancer are given estrogen therapy, they lose less hair.
Side note: If men are castrated for whatever reason, they don't go bald at all. YIKES!
Castration before or shortly after puberty will prevent baldness. " Castration, lack of DHT-receptors/enzymes (testicular feminization) , feminine status block the progression of balding and hair loss. However, women and castrated males have other sources of androgens and can still experience pattern loss."
Hope I help, I learn something also.

Baldness is a result of excess testosterone in the body. As men naturally have higher levels to begin with, this is why male pattern baldness / hair loss is more common.

Most men are genetically predisposed to male pattern baldness. It is the effect of hormones on the hair follicle that produces male pattern baldness. Testosterone, a hormone that is present in high levels in males after puberty, is converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) by an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase. DHT has an adverse affect on the hair follicles. Acting on a hormone receptor on the hair follicle it slows down hair production and produces weak, shorter hair, sometimes it stops hair growth from the follicle completely. This process gradually depletes your stock of hair and is normal hair loss.

Its testosterone that makes men go bald. Women have it too but in much lower doses. Men with lower testosterone levels dont go as bald as those with higher levels.

Men have a gene that predisposes them to baldness. Some women have it too, but not nearly so many.

So..
Millions of people all over the world are affected by hair loss, and it's not only the males that suffer this condition as even females are affected by this problem. What's sad is that many of the individuals affected by such a condition end up just accepting what is happening to their hair due to lack of information or options.

Women are beginning to get bald exactly like men, it is the stress of professional life. Look around you and you will be amazed to see how many women have clear patches on top of their head. At least we have now perfect equality of sexes.

Because we dont have much testosterone and men do. I think I'm right in saying bald men have more testosterone than hairy men.
