I have to write a paper on the Voltaire's Candide, but I didn't really understand it all. Could anybody help me with these concepts and point out where examples might be found in the book? Thanks!

1.) The characters and the themes they represent.
2.) Examples of toleration, rule of law and freedom of opinion
3.) The historical significance of the book.

I guess I probably should have mentioned this in the original prompt, but it is an in class essay.

The story is just one huge exaggeration of the society Voltaire lived in. If you look at the characters, each one has something particularly ridiculous about them that relates to the society of that time. I would list out the qualities (or eccentricities) of each major character and do research on Voltaire's contemporary society and see if you can't make any comparisons or find any patterns.
