I had a miscarriage Sept 10. 2006. My doctor told me the next time I get pregnant to come in as soon as I find out so I can get a shot. The problem is, that I don't remember what the shot is called. All he told me is that it will help the pregnancy along. I think I may be pregnant again and I wanted to do some research on this shot he was talking about. Does anyone know what it is called? I remember it started with a P, if that help at all...

Some people need to read the whole question before answering... The shot HELPS THE PREGNANCY ALONG. This was my 2nd miscarriage. It doesn't have anything to do with my blood type.

You only need a shot if you have negative blood. After you miscarry you need to get the shot and also when you are pregnant again because your body will fight the off the baby like it was a foreign object that it needs to get rid of.
I had a miscarriage and had to get the shot when I got pregnant again. It is so your body will accept the baby and not try and kill it.
You better go and get that shot right away.
That is if you have negative blood. If not, then there is no reason for you to get the shot.

Maybe Rhogam? Spelling might be wrong. I had to have one because my blood is neg. So it is the RH factor.
ADD: Found my card....it's RhoGAM.
ANOTHER ADD: If you haven't carried a child to term, then the shot your dr spoke of could have everything to do with your RH factor. When you are RH neg. your body will treat your fetus as something it needs to get rid of and will cause you to miscarry. Why don't you just call your doctor's office back instead of asking a question and then being rude when you don't get the answer you are looking for?

Is your blood type negative? It could have something to do with that. If so you would need a shot to make sure that your body doesn't see any positive babies as something to attack and get rid of.

I have enver heard of this shot. My daughter just lost her baby in Sept. also and the doctor never mentioned a shot. The i\only thing i can think of is if your blood type is RH. you need to talk to your doctor about this shot and find out what it is. they should wait until after the tramua is over and give you a few weeks to tell you stuff like this, you can't remember right after a loss like that. Please be leary of any shot.

After only one miscarriage? I wouldn't. Losing your first pregnancy is actually quite common and is NOT a sign that you require medical help in order to carry to term. It requires 3 miscarriages before you can be properly diagnosed with RPL (Recurrent Pregnancy Loss).
Personally, I'd switch doctors NOW. This lack of confidence in your body is sure to become more pronounced as your next pregnancies continue. You deserve someone who has more faith in you!
Good Luck!
