I was going to school to obtain an associates in business admin but then I got what I thought was a good job in a good field (construction) and I never finished my program. Now I am extremely unhappy and I have no idea what to do with my life. I am 28 and I want a career that is not going to constantly keep me underpaid. Due to the financial situation, I don't have the money to go back to school either. I have two stepdaughters and I do not have the time to work a second job to earn money for school. I am stuck in a crappy cirlce and need some ideas on how to break it.

If you originally wanted a business admin 'career' - do you still? If so, then you have the general area where your goal should be. Start looking for other jobs in the 'dream' area. I realize you have salary requirements, but it is possible (especially since you're underpaid now).

Many companies have some sort of tuition reinbursement program, make that one of your questions (or research).

1. Put together your 'dream' job. What is it? Something that you like to do... and something that you're good at. Maybe it's "working with numbers", "running an office", "belonging to a huge corporation"... whatever it is... write it down. You feel that you're in a crappy circle because the current job has sapped all of your creativity. Don't let it.

2. Put together a resume of y our skills. NOT just where you've worked. It takes time to come up with the right set of stuff. Think of the 'impact' that you've had at work. Personal, business, socially.

3. Do a search for companies that DO what you've dreamed of. Maybe it'll be a temp company. Maybe a contracting company. Think of all the possiblities it could be.

4. Go to work every day knowing that your time there is limited... That you are NOT going to let them get a 'diamond' worker for a 'coal' price.

good luck

Hey there- nice hat!
You can always get a student loan you pay back later or qualify for financial aid. The first thing you need to do is explore YOU. What will make you happy? What are your interests? Is money your top motivator? With these answers I might be able to point you in a direction.
Just remember you can do whatever you want to in your life. Don't let factors make you feel stuck or blocked. The only thing that keeps up stuck is us. If you want to go to school, it can be done!

Contact local colleges about scholarships and financial aid programs. Most classes are day and night, so you could possibly get financial aid and go to school for free in the evening after work. Look into the financial aid, there are a lot of programs out there.

Would you be able to hang in there a little while longer?…Perhaps look at working from home, being your own boss as Robert Kiyosaki suggests, from his Rich Dad Poor Dad book "The Business School". You can do this until you make enough residual income to replace the income you're making at work now and you can finally walk away and say BYE! Or at least enough to help you out til you can find what exactly it is you're truly looking for...like your dream job or something.

Look for a good paying job that is willing to train you. You're in the same situation I'm in. I'm looking into becoming a truck driver because the pay is good and many of the companies will pay for you to get a cdl. The starting pay at some truck companies is $40,000 per year.

get a job that offers tuition reimbursement or get a pell grant. if you have step kids you more than likely qualify for the grant and it may cover the entire cost of tuition plus books. fill out a fafsa asap because spring semester registration is starting soon.

go to local government employment center and tell them what you are telling us here and try to get into ADULT traing for career changes ..lots of programs are there and if you worked a while you are entitled to pay while training on unemployment insurance benefits at most government institutions. You will be tested for your ability to fit into these courses and then it will change your life only if you stick to it and learn..Good luck..
