Do you have to draw any 20-sided shape or a regular 20-sided shape?

Any 20-sided shape: Just start drawing short line segments and make sure that you can connect the beginning and the ending without crossing over any of the line segments.

A regular 20-sided figure:
1. To determine the angle measures: 18(180)/20 = 162 degrees per angle.
2. Draw a short line segment. (But make sure you know exactly how long that line segment is, because you're going to have to draw it 19 more times.)
3. Using a compass mark off an angle of 162 form the first line segment.
4. Using the endpoint of the first line segment and the marked angle, make another line segment equal in length to the first one.
5. Repeat until your 20th line segment and 1st line segment meet each other.

If you have done this correctly you should have a 20 sided figure with all equal angles and all equal sides. It will look kinda like a circle.

Not sure if you mean 2D or 3D, but I've done this many times with 2D, using a pencil and trial and error.

You can lay this out quickly, however by using small identically shaped items such as pins, toothpicks or matchsticks.

Get them laid out evenly and bingo, you're done. lightly draw lines beside each pin or toothpick and then remove them. Use a ruler to make each line exact in length and straight.

Draw a fairly large 5 pointed star.
Now, between each point, put 3 evenly spaced dots in a sort of arc from starpoint to star point.
Lastly, connect each dot to the dot next to it.

Alternative method:
Draw a decgram (http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Decagram.html )
Split each pair of vertices with another dot. This will give you 20 points.
