Because Mother in laws (MIL) can never be mothers and Daughter-in-laws(DIL) can never be daughters.

Anyways...I understand your difficulty, but you don't have to be guilty about it...you only need to be more smarter...

Most of the times it is better to be a silent spectator..but some times

A) When Mom's right and Wife's wrong : Tell your wife to correct in front of your mom
B) when Mom's wrong and wife's correct: Tell your mom to correct when you are alone .... softly

and after both the situtations ... give your wife a cosy hug ...make her comfortable and then ...tell your wife "Darling Mom's are like that....if only my Mom was as wise as you....any ways sweet heart ....I LOVE YOU...thank you darling....

yes. you are not managing them properly. u shud know when to take sides and when to ask them to compromise. one thing remember, your wife will always feel she is an outsider, and your mom will always feel your wife is an outsider. put your self in your wife's shoes and think what problems you wud have faced if you were staying with your inlaws, and how you would have wanted the problems to resolve.

your wife is old enough to make decisions, so your mother should let her. Your mother has no business interfering in your life.
