my friend's kid got caught doing this and she is telling him lies about what happened. I'd like to find out if the bank is pursuing her legally and if it's public record so I can show him the truth. he defends her to everyone and looks like a fool.

That's called FRAUD.

Usually, that means: (1) firing, (2) prosecution, and (3) a jail term.

I worked in banking and from time to time we had defalcations arise. Depending on the amount, termination was automatic. If it was a large sum, then the police were called in and the employee was charged.
In the old days, banks used to keep the embezzlement quiet because of the bad press. Now they tend to prosecute and go after an order for restitution.

Hope that helps.

you get fired then yes you get charged with fraud. You can go to your clerk of courts to see if it is public record, most likely it is unless he/she is a minor. I would be very very suprised if the bank did not pursue it. But how high the fines are or if she gets community service depends on how tough your state and local laws are.

Actually, he needs to go directly to the bank and ask them. They will tell him the truth. And she should be prosecuted. That's embezzlement and it is VERY illegal.
