It's like they're not running on all cylinders during the playoffs (overconfident maybe?) They're striving and hungry for it all year long, then my boys just lose it in the postseason.
Leave Torre or A-Rod alone. It looks A-Rod just had a really bad season and needs to get back in the swing of things and as for Torre, He's taking the Yanks into postseason every year, and he has the support of his players and the fans alike. The finger pointing is useless right now, We can put almost every one the boys under the scope and say you could have did this or you should have done that, but could've, would've, should've won't change the fact that THE TEAM just did not bring it

Well, I know you said Yankee fans only, but I have an opinion, so I'll share it.

First: Keep Torre. Anyone who thinks he isn't the kind of manager these guys need is out of his mind. Anyone who thinks bringing in Piniella will make it *better* than it was with Torre is doubly out of his mind.

Second: Trade A-Rod, and not just to get rid of him. Trade him for some pitching. Get one really good starter, even if it's a second in the rotation kind of guy. You should be able to get that, a good pick or two, another promising minor-league pitching prospect or two, and a good solid utility player to fill in with a high .200's average, and unload a ton of $$ in the process (not that that matters to George, but I'm just sayin'). You can have all the hitting in the world, but good pitching is what wins championships.

Third: One more trade of an older slugger, possibly Giambi, and again you should be going for draft picks and one good prospect, going for hitting and fielding talent this time.

Fourth: Be ready to rebuild for a max of three years. Knowing Torre and the talent that would be left, you'd still be in the postseason, but not likely to get all the way through without maturing the younger players.

With George's money, and filling in the pitching and the youth spots, a couple years of maturation, plus some free-agent hustling during those couple years, and the Yankees could be unstoppable again.

Not that any of us non-Yankee fans want that. I'm just sayin'...

I would look to let go of Sheffield, Wright, Pavano, Lidle and Johnson. For the following players, I would get players to groom as their replacements in the next few years: Posada, Mussina, Giambi, and Rivera. Rodriguez is tricky. I would definitely have him talk to a sports psycologist (even though I feel these people are of dubious credibility). He still has the talent, but the question is would it be better for him personally--and for the Yankees-- elsewhere. If a trade does take place, get starting pitching in return and get at least a number 2, don't try to get the ace because too many aces in a rotation does not work. Also, if someone has established themselves as the ace of a team, more than likely he has years under his belt, so the Yanks might end up gettting him during the downcycle of his career. Go after Zito. Leave Damon, Matsui, Abreu, Jeter, Williams, Cano, and Proctor alone. Cabrera, consider a position switch. Improve the bullpen. Villone may need to be gotten rid of. Have Cashman have full control and have Steinbrenner shut up and leave the team alone. Remember he went after Giambi, Johnson (three years after he needed to go after him), Rodriguez and changed the character of the team that was once personified by Paul O'Neill. As a matter of fact, hire O'Neill to the front office as Assistant General manager in charge of talent evaluation. DO NOT FIRE TORRE, ABSOLUTELY NOT!! Someone talk to Jeter that being a captain is more than dispassionately tying to lead by example, it's also about proactively taking the pulse of the team and helping out teammates that you might even hate.

I don't think that they should do anything rash. If theres a change to be made at the top then think it through. I like Girardi if he's still available. Pinella's time may have come and gone. Alex will never be accepted like Jeter and with that said he should be traded to a Pitcher rich team. Get rid of Sheffield and let Andy Phillips play 1st base with Giambi DHing. The outfield and the right side of the infield is set. Go out and get a new 3rd baseman and bring up touted Philip Hughes from the minors. Get rid of Randy Johnson, Jared Wright and Corey Lidle and try to sign Mussina to a reduced contract for 2 years.
Daydreaming.

What in the hell does the Manager have to do with the fact that Detroit has a VASTLY superior Pitching team??? It's the responsibility of the OWNER to hire pitchers.

You had two FORMER Yankee pitchers with something to prove, pitching the games of their lives. So obviously, firing people are not the answer. Stop passing the buck, George.
