I do believe you have to have a special printer that prints the routing numbers with magnetic ink. I don't think they are that expensive either.

My wife (who's worked in a bank) says no. The printing has to have a specific element so that the bank's computer can read the numbers.

My dad (who prints checks on his printer at home) says yes. He uses Quicken and it prints the routing number and account number with the correct font for the computer at the bank to read.

yes, but you need to buy special toner cartridges.

the company that sells these cartridges probably has or recommends the software, and vice versa.

MICR toners are more abrasive than regular toners, this may affect cartridge life, or even some parts of the printer.
