Yes, unless you are equipped to work in a vacuum chamber with professional-grade tools. The alignment of the heads in a hard drive is so close and delicate that opening the protective case will almost certainly wreck the drive.

Unless you're in a sterile environment, you will damage it irreparably. Even dust particles are too large to go between the heads and the disk itself.

i agree with spotty - it is possible, but it is highly likely you will damage it.

Once can do it at home, but remember: if a micron of dust is sealed inside it when you close it up again, you can kiss most of your data goodbye.

Do it in the bathroom.

No as long as its done properly
its not a task you could do at home with a couple of screwdrivers and a spanner though
