A vertical market is a particular industry or group of enterprises in which similar products or services are developed and marketed using similar methods (and to whom goods and services can be sold). Vertical industry is acyually the same thing as a vertical market.

There is no such thing as a horizontal industry but there is a such thing called Horizontal Market. Horizontal markets : two markets are horizontally related if the two goods in question are substitutes or complements in production or consumption.

In laymans terms:
A vertical industry is one that has a very narrow market. Its suppliers and consumers all work for the same type of business. An example is a specialty store which only sells beads and beading supplies. When this hobby becomes last year's fad, the industry dies and jobs are lost.

A horizontal industry is like a grocery store which appeals to many kinds of consumers and sells many kinds of products. Food does not go out of fashion, so a horizontal industry is more likely to survive.

you mean integration?? right

In microeconomics and strategic management, the term vertical integration describes a style of ownership and control. Vertically integrated companies are united through a hierarchy and share a common owner. Usually each member of the hierarchy produces a different product or service, and the products combine to satisfy a common need. It is contrasted with horizontal integration. Vertical integration is one method of avoiding the hold-up problem.

One of the earliest, largest and most famous examples of vertical integration was the Carnegie Steel company. The company controlled not only the mills where the steel was manufactured, but also the mines where the iron ore was extracted, the coal mines that supplied the coal, the ships that transported the iron ore and the railroads that transported the coal to the factory, the coke ovens where the coal was coked, etc.

A monopoly produced through vertical integration is called a vertical monopoly, although it might be more appropriate to speak of this as some form of cartel.

Vertical integration is the degree to which a firm owns its upstream suppliers and its downstream buyers.

In microeconomics and strategic management, the term horizontal integration describes a type of ownership and control. It is a strategy used by a business or corporation that seeks to sell a type of product in numerous markets. To get this market coverage, several small subsidiary companies are created. Each markets the product to a different market segment or to a different geographical area. This is sometimes referred to as the horizontal integration of marketing. The horizontal integration of production exists when a firm has plants in several locations producing similar products. Horizontal integration in marketing is much more common than horizontal integration in production. It is contrasted with vertical integration.

A monopoly created through horizontal integration is called a horizontal monopoly.

Verticle industry sectors are to give an example The manufacurers, the wholesalers, the retailers, and the public that buy their product. So this sector could be silk scarfs.

So if you may want to target this sector if you were a producer of fine silk. You may want to advertise to get the message accross to each of them that your product is best and get them to ask for scarves made from your silk at every level.

Hope that makes sense because I lost along the way I'm sure..lol

Never heard of a horizontal industry but if there was it would be say all the manufacturers of all types of scarves not just silk I would imagine
