More than 20 years ago I wrote the first book about how to profitably run a powersports dealership, called
"Mind Your Own Business."
The original edition has been out of print for many years. Yet I continued to get requests for the book. That's why I created this Second Edition, MYOB - 2.
The Second Edition contains over 100 pages of additional insights. I've updated it to reflect the many changes in the industry over the past 20 years. Those changes include the increasing sophistication of dealerships, the influence of the Internet, and the greater knowledge today's consumers have relating to the products, dealerships and P&A retailers.
The Second Edition also reflects the growth of the industry, from motorcycle dealerships into what is now known as the powersports industry - including ATVs and watercraft."

I would gather all the information I could on dealerships in your city or state. Next and one of the most important things would be to attend a motorcycle dealership conference. You'll have more than enough people to talk with about opening a dealership. Come up with a name, incorporate, secure a tax id, keep records, and start gathering all the information and meeting people in the business you can. I'm sure you can find information about the next motorcycle convention on the internet. Good Luck with your new business...

I not sure, but, most things like this are Territorial to some extent. If, there an established dealer he may have a certain area of coverage which will prevent someone from moving in on his "turf", so to say. You will need operating capital, location and your territory. Then find out who you contact to buy the Motorcycles.

First, you need capital. You'll have to go to the bank and ask for a business loan. They will ask you for proof that it will be a viable business, and may ask you for more paperwork. If and when you get the loan you will need to find a site for your business. You'll need to advertise and of course, have merchandise. Good luck.
