we want to go to disney this year but are on a tight budget, ive read tons of things on different web sites on how to save money. ive come up with some ways on my own to maybe save some money but they are maybe a bit dishonest, like the refillable mugsat disney resorts, insted of buying one per person id buy one and send everyone down for refills using the same mug to be poured into a glass in our room, or booking a trip for a party of four because its cheaper, staying in a room in a value resort made for four, but having five people in the room and buying one ticket at the gate saves about 800 bucks on a larger room for a family of five. im a bit concerend about what happens if getting caught. last year my three year old had turned three two weeks before our trip and i just told them she was two so i didnt have to buy her ticket. anyone ever try anything like this to save some money? did it work?

While slightly dishonest, I think that "sharing" the refillable mug is a great idea. I don't know about having someone in a room that isn't registered there, I personally would be uncomfortable with that. But if you can do it, go for it. When we go, we often share our meals. Most places offer quite generous portions which we split rather than ordering 2 meals.
Another thing we have done the past 2 years is to go in September. Around April or May, Disney offers a deal with the dining plan for free. (Can't beat that with a stick!!)
Good luck in your efforts.

I do the same thing at six flags with the refillable cup but I bring Plastic cups inside the cup into the park so we can share. My daughter, son in law , husband , and myself went to Aruba and stayed in a suite that just 2 people were registered for. No one is going to count how many people are actually in your room. I have worked for a hotel for 18 years no one would really care. But a really cheap way to go to Disney is to check out the web site skyauction.com and click on the link auctions closing soon. I got a suite at a time share for a bid of $1.00 and then there were 2 fees one for $15.00 and $195.00 so the total was $211.00 for and entire week at a brand new place called vacation village and the great thing it was a suite with a full kitchen so you could save even more by cooking in the suite. Check it out because sometimes there are 2 and 3 bedroom suites available. You can also get free tickets to Disney parks by signing up and going to a time share tour. It takes about 1 and 1/2 hours but they do give you what they offer . If you want a fast excuse to not buy the time share tell them you work for Holiday Inn and you can travel and get an employee rate anywhere you want . Have fun at Disney and relax save what ever way you can.

Well you do what you have to do to save a penny here and there. I wouldn't feel badly about putting 5 people in a room meant for 4. Here are some other tips to save you and your family a bit of money:
Get a room with a kitchenette. When we travel to Disney World, we always stop by Wal Mart on the 192 and purchase some basics... sandwich items, some frozen meals, milk, OJ, bags of chips or other type of snack item, etc... you wouldn't believe how much money you'll save by making your own meals instead of always eating out. You can always have breakfast at your hotel... nutrigrain bars or pancackes... whatever your hotel is equipped with. You can sneak a PB and J sandwich into the parks as a snack or lunch... just put it at the bottom of your bag. The Disney Water Parks allow coolers. I highly recommend that you take one. Their food is terrible.
Enjoy fireworks for free! On a day where you aren't at the Magic Kingdom... drive to the MK around 8ishpm. No one will be at the parking booths, so you can just drive in and park. Load the ferry boat about half an hour before the fireworks are scheduled to start. Enjoy them from the ferry boat! Just stay on the top deck, toward the far end and ride it over and then back to your car.
And lastly, combine your trip. Visit all 4 parks in 2 days instead of spending 4 days at each theme park. Get everyone in your party a 2-day park hopper pass. Start Day 1 at Animal Kingdom and spend the other half of the day at Magic Kingdom. On Day 2, start off your day at Disney MGM Studios and finish up at EPCOT.

Wow, that is super cheap!! LOL I have lied once about my baby's age and also said she was 2 when she just turned 3 a week before but oh well...that I can see doing but none of the other stuff. Instead of staying at a Disney Value resort which is still alot of money, why not stay at a motel on 192 in Kissimee? Would be wayyyy cheaper. Oh and buy your tix on eBay to save some $$...

wow, these are some great ideas posted here. I will have to take advantage of one or two. I saved money as well by buying food at walmart, along with disney t shirts. We stayed off property because it was cheaper but you wont get the benefits of staying in a disney resort.

Yes, Yes, and Yes- It will save a few bucks here and there, it all helps. What is really sad is if you say you only have 2 people in your room instead of 4 you can save around 50 more dollars a night. Good Luck

If you're afraid of getting caught, then I would recommend doing something legal like attending a timeshare. They're usually 90 minutes long and you just have to hear them out as they try to convince you to buy a timeshare. At the end, you simply tell them you'll think about it and they'll give you free tickets to the parks. This can save you a lot of money, you just have to be willing to sacrifice the 90-minutes!

only problem with the refillable mug idea is that often the food court is far away from your room. you could end up walking 5-10 minutes just to get a soda. i think getting soda in a can from wal mart, publix or something would be a lot easier
