missile? Considering the following facts.....Kim Jong IL is crazy, crazy like a fox....N. Korea has enough conventional missile launchers to virtually wipe-out Seoul S. Korea in 30 minutes.....Causing hundreds of thousands of Korean and U.S. casualties....N. Korea is frantically in need of money, food and supplies....N. Korea could and probably would SELL nukes to terrorists or countries for the right price....If we don't stop them NOW(and it's very late in the ball-game already) then they will likely use their power on S. Korea and others.... What would you do???

map - The device doesn't need to be deliverable in conventional terms. It could be brought to us or anyone by plane or ship etc... And as far as needing the international community, well I think Kim Jon IL has already guaranteed that.

Turboweeg - He's already been told that and he's already threatened AFTER being told that. Many times we try to answer logically, because we are generally logical and reasonable. But we must constantly remember that Kim Jong IL is not sane, logical, or reasonable.

not a new threat ( they have always been able to overrun Seoul with ease ) it's what happens next that keeps them under control and that hasn't changed

the threat of selling nukes is also not new we knew they had them - what is new is we are no longer playing the appeasement game so they are upping the ante ( or bluff - we will see ) going to be interesting

It depends on three things.

1) Did they really do it? I read a report that Russian Intelligence thinks the bomb could have been conventional. Given Kim Jong Mentally-ill's record I don't discount the possibility of a hoax.
2) If is is a real bomb is it deliverable? It could be that the device is so crude that it is to big to go in a bomber or even a missile. Which leads me to number 3.
3) Does he have a missile that can make it off the Korean penninsula? His test in July was a dud.

What we do will depend largely on the answers to those three questions. Whatever we do we absolutely cannot do it unilaterally. China, Japan, Russia and South Korea need to be involved.

Maybe I could hack into an approaching missile's flight control and turn it on Chut-up Chavez!

If N. Korea did try to nuke S. Korea there would be an all out holocaust in Asia. China has vowed to defend N. Korea (even though they claim to be outraged at the 'nuke' test on Sunday) and the U.S. has vowed to defend S. Korea and Japan. Can't rule out Japan as a target either.
I still think Kim Jong Il is a puppet of the Chinese. Even though (from China) there was all this concern about the long range missile test on the 4th of July, I think behind the scenes the Chinese are giving the 'nod' of approval to Kim. It wouldn't surprise me.
Have a great day!!!

I have NO good options! I can't attack they would destroy South Korea. I can't really contain them without a blockade and that would trip off a war. Sanctions are worthless because they already are under sanctions and if they did hurt they again would strike out. It's time to admit that there is no stopping a country from developing a nuke if they want one. The only thing you can do is put them on our nuclear target list and try to alleviate there financial pain so they won't sell the technology to terrorist. It's NOT the MACHO way but it's the only realistic way.

Well. They are a desperate nation capable of going to desperate measures.
We know they produce poppy for heroin which is distributed around the world instead of feeding the people. They have a million man army which we are in absolutely no position militarily or financially to fight a war on soil.

Sanctions will only deepen their dispair but China won't let them go off the deep end. China doesn't want any NKorean refugees.
China is NKorea's biggest ally. I believe China's recent strong words of condemnation are just words, they will help them with food and whatever NKorea needs to remain stable. The last thing CHina wants is a chaotic NKorea to deal with.
China knows they are a threat but will seek to contain them.
They are arming themselves because they know the Western countries are poised to police the world and get rid of him because he is a gangster leader. This strategy whos ultimate goal is to have a global cooperation has put NKOrea and Iran on the defensive.

If it came down to war, if they targeted us preemtively, somehow, etc. We might use our atomic weapons on them. It may cause a Nuclear WWIII.
China may keep this from happening somehow by using it's own army to keep NKorea in check and perhaps China would be forced to remove KimJungIl themselves.
They would do this because it is in their best interest. They are getting more powerful due to our trade relations, and they wouldn't want anything to threaten this. So, in the End, China will probably take care of NKorea,
if they don't, we may have some big problems.
How would China monitor if NKOrea was selling WMD? they wouldn't. China seeks to keep things status quo, I think. But this is not in America's interest. Therefore, I think the biggest pressure globally should be on China to police NKorea and keep them in check.

China's invasion of NKorea and a war would be the best thing that has ever happened to NKoreans. There is so much wonderful freedom and plenty for SKoreans and Chinese in this modern age, it's a shame NKoreans can't share in this global wealth.

What would I do? We are in a truce with N. Korea. If they attack S. K., We should commence total war on the country, destroy every major city, and root out and kill every person in the government. This might give other countries an insentive not to play with nuclear arms. Of course we should rattle our sabers and let them know the consequences of their actions before that happens, and we should do it with conventional weapons.
However, as a country, we do not follow up our threats. We don't even effectively punish our own criminals.

First, I think we've pushed this game to the brink with the hard line of either no nuclear test or no future. That's as threatening as anything I've ever heard, and that is unacceptable language for public consumption.

Now, faced with a demented troll like Kim, who will push back to call our bluff, what do we do? We've put ourselves in an awkward position. Now they've allegedly tested a nuke, what do we do?

What we will not do is let them blackmail other countries. He needs to be told that any nuclear attack or threat of nuclear attack will be treated as an act of war, and we will respond massively, and that he and his little kingdom will be no more. This needs to be whispered in his ear, so that he knows exactly what we mean.

It is time to put this peckerwood gnome in his place.

According to the liberals, N. Korea having nukes is their right as a country. If they want to blow us up, we have no right to stop them.

Plus, if they do bomb us, it will probably be Las Angeles first. No one in Las Angeles has a soul anyway.

I think we should go over there and take care of business like we did with Iraq. No more Muslim terrorist attacks, no more Korean missles.

And who really cares whether or not he REALLY had a nuclear blast? He claimed to, and that's enough for me. Just like Saddam claiming to have WMD's was a good reason to declare war! (We actually found WMD's by the way, I hope everyone knows that. The whole country was armed to the teeth. That would cause mass desruction in my opinion)

I am not worried. America has enough nuclear warheads to bomb the world 36 times over. If North Korea tries anything stupid, we'll just reduce it to a steaming crater.

(Ours actually will reach their destination too. North Korea has taken pot shot at us but have missed us by several thousand miles.)
