Don't waste time on media player. None of the above answer is going to solve ur problem. Instead download free vlc player from www.videolan.org. it will play all the movies. I too had this problem but vlc has solved my problem.

It could be a DivX avi file and you need the codec for it. Look here and get the Divx 5.02.

forget media player and install VLC player.. its plays almost all formats..
