I can see when somebody actually has carnal knowledge of a child and have PHYSICALLY done something to a child that they would be considered a pedo, but should EVERYBODY listed on the sex offender registry be considered a pedo?

What about peeing in public - that puts you in the sex offender registry ;)

What about downloading child porn [tasteless, YES] - that puts you in the sex offender registry ;)

The whole sex offender registry has become so idiotic, so crazy that I expect at some time it will come crashing down under its own weight. The original intent was to list repeat offenders and sexual predators. Now they have anyone ever convicted (in some states, a mere accusation can get you on the registry) of anything remotely "sexual" on these lists. The public doesn't have a clue what's going on, and really can't be bothered to research. Now many states are imposing residency restrictions. I know those are unconstitutional, but it will take time for these lawsuits to work through the courts.

The people on this forum who really bug me are when someone is asking a question about sex offenders, and they will respond with something like this: "OMG! NOOOOOOOO! They're incurable! They're pedofiles (sic on purpose). They should have their ***** cut off! They should be moved to an island somewhere." Inevitably, their computer names are something like tiffany or hotbabe or something ridiculous like that. A bunch of airheads!

Simply possessing child porn is a crime that will ruin your life. My husband spent 3 years in federal prison due to a couple of pictures being on his computer. He is now a registered sex offender and on the registry. He can not get a job and it is ruining our lives and the lives of our children. They do have people listed at different tiers but people don't understand that. They see someone on the registry and assume they are the worst of the worst and many people on the registry have been killed due to this hit list. Not just the offender has to worry but the entire family. My kids could be driving one of our cars, which are all listed, and be ran off the road if someone thinks it is my husband. SCARY! The registry is unconstitutional but if we all a violent offender registry, a DUI registry, and a drug offender registry then I wouldn't mind so much. I am more worried about violent people than my kids being raped by a stranger. Most kids are raped by people they know and I know my kids have been taught how to play is safe when I am not around. Stay in groups! Yell for help! and so on. The registry will not stop someone who is a repeat offender, it only hurts those that are trying to do better and trying to move on with life.

Being on a sex offender list only means you broke a law related in some way to sex. You could be a Pedo, Rapist, Peeping Tom, Public Exposure, etc.

For those calling Samian a liberal, I even have considered his responses in the two politics and faith for a while now. i might challenge he's midsection-stunning on some subjects and midsection-left on others. he's in no way an extremist. this is a confusing question, on account that my brother's daughter replaced into molested. I want I had a company answer yet I lean in the direction of unconstitutional, only like that tutor-off choose some years in the past in FL who made DUI offenders game bumperstickers. and that i don't drink.

there are sex offender lists, which are usually locally driven which will include ALL people convicted of any sex crime, which aren't necessarily crimes against children. Whereas Meghans List is a list of only crimes and those who have committed them against children.

Think they are starting to list in categories and seriousness of crime. Calling someone pedo is still used by many in divorce proceedings.
